Let's experiment.   You send me one without quoting me but using the reply button like I just did to you.

It appears to me, when I've noticed, that anyone using "reply" makes it look like they are replying to the OP.   I've started a number of threads and when people "reply" I see it as a reply to me.

Well, that's interesting.  Maybe the software recognizes which post you are looking on the monitor.  Grasping at straws to explain this but hey, if it works, great!

Most likely it marks any thread you've posted in as high priority and brings them up when anyone poss anything in that thread. It'd be like selecting the "High Interest" dropdown menu in the old forum.

I was looking around the forum and found this under the "Help" link:

I think this is a great thing to read if you are new to this forum format--it explains the basics of posting on here and might clear up a lot of questions that we seem to have during this transition. There are other Help topics on there, as well. I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes in suggesting this, but I thought it might be helpful! (No pun intended...really! ;))

thanks, I agree, that before posting a question, hopefully someone has already read the 'help' section and either couldnt find or doesnt understand the answer.  I know I found it very helpful when I first posted here!

Some of these questions are not answered in the help section, unfortunately.  They may be touched on, but dont specifically address the questions asked, mostly because the questions presented are detail oriented and concern specific functionality or settings (or may be called something different than in the old forum, so when searching for a word in this help section, it isnt found!).  Plus, if the administrators change settings, it is possible that the answers change based on what they changed!

That's why it is much appreciated that the moderators are so available and up for making this usable for everyone by explaining these issues.  Kudos to all the members that have answered others' questions too and offered help!
Very polite, and if I am not mistaken, this is an etiquette board...  ;D

Yes, that's true...that is a problem.

I agree! I didn't post much on the other board(s), but I lurked a lot and so I know that the moderators are very good at their jobs. I am grateful for all of their hard work and it's nice to see others helping answer questions because hopefully it helps relieve a little bit of the workload for them. Unfortunately, one of my "talents" is the art of stating the obvious...LOL...but hopefully the link will help someone! *shrug* :)

Jeanne: Are you sure? I just clicked on "Show new replies to your posts" and was taken to a thread I had posted in earlier today that someone had replied to, but hadn't quoted me. She wasn't talking to me, either, just the general public.

Ticia,

Will you please quote me/reply to me?  I haven't had any notifications of a message specifically to me (although, come to think of it, I think EHellDame did).  I'd like to see what it looks like.

Thanks!

Courtney

Courtney, here you go.

Thanks Ticia.

Unless I missed something, there was no difference in notifications between this thread, in which you quoted me, and threads I've posted in that didn't have responses directly to me.

Although this software completely changes the way I've always read the forum, I guess I'll just have to deal with how different it is.   :(
