New Forum..a Work in progress

Because of the need to get a new forum up and running quickly, there have been some design and customization left undone.  This will be a work in progress so don't be surprised if the colors change from minute to minute.  We're trying several different themes and css style changes.

You won't find many changes from the old forum regarding features.  You still have private messaging, spell check, many posting options, collapsible folders, signatures, smileys, etc.  In fact, I believe notifying the moderators of a problem post is easier in this forum application. 

You'll also notice this forum allows "child" boards (see in Off Topic/Ehellion Meet and Greets for an example). If you have a great idea for splitting a folder into separate folders or creating "child" folders, please make those suggestions asap to this thread. 

I had time with the other forum to test and get familiar with it all.  However, I don't have that  luxury this time so some permissions have not been enabled yet but probably will be.  Just be patient while we get our sea legs here.  If you notice a glitch, let me know.

I know this is frustrating but imagine how I feel!

Thanks for all of your hard work in getting us back up and running so quickly!!  So many of us are "addicted" to our daily dose of ehell, and are glad to be able to get on again!!

Woohoo, crisis averted!  Except there's nothing much to read yet - so everyone go out and find someone rude to tell us about!

On a more serious note, did we lose all those wonderful recipes that were on the recipe threads on the old board?

The real workhorse behind the scenes is my husband who spent hours last night downloading forum software and installing first phpbb and then two updates of SMF.  He then helps with the more complicated configurations and database set ups.  While he rarely posts, he does put a considerable amount of time into the operation of the overall web site.  This web site and forum wouldn't exist without him.

Do you mean the CookBook Project?  I'm planning on moving those over here but want to make sure this is operating well first.

okay, wonderful :-)  There were some on there I had been hoping to try, and was kicking myself that they'd be gone forever!

Can you tell us why you had to create another new forum?  I think I missed something.

Allegedly the Bee Hive forum software I was using utilizes too much of the shared dedicated server resources and would crash the server.  However, not more than 20 minutes ago the server nearly crashed again and when I called, they said it was not my forum this time but someone else.  I'm not thrilled with this whole process and am still not convinced it is not a problem with the hosting provider.

Really?  I loved the BeeHive software so the SMF is unfamiliar to me.  It does have better features as far as I can tell, the Admin sections are wickedly efficient but I'm not used to the way the messages thread.

This format is generally speaking a little less cumbersome once you get used to it.  The features are more at your fingertips than some of the other ones.
