I was in Toys R Us one time buying some present or other and was waiting in line at the checkout.  I was at the end of the line with my one item, and a new cashier came over and opened the next checkout over and said, "I can help the next person."  I stepped out of line and headed that way (it was only a few feet away) when this couple who had a cart full of baby stuff BUTTED RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME.  I mean, they almost knocked me down!

I said, "I believe I was next, actually."  The woman said, "We have a baby."  In a tone that implied that since I apparently did not have a cart full of baby stuff that I was somehow inferior to her big-butted self.  Her husband said nothing.  The cashier looked appalled, but she rang them up as quickly as possible.  When they left, the cashier said she was sorry and I said it wasn't her fault some people were so rude.

I was so mad it took me an hour to calm down.  I wish I could have said, "Even dogs have babies," but I probably would have gotten slugged by Her Majesty.

I hope her baby puked on her when she got home.

I'd rather be disfigured than in constant pain.

What a horrrible woman; any "disfigurement" she has is in her personality.

Just recently, in fact, I was reading an etiquette book and saw "disfigured" on a list of words you don't use, in public, to describe a person, ever.

Yeah...I've had people tell me that "people like me" shouldn't be seen out in public, that I should be ashamed of being among "normal" people, etc. *shrugs* I've had people (total strangers) try to "guess" what condition I had, then get offended when I wouldn't TELL them what it was.

Why I even responded to her is beyond me; my stock response to inquiries of that nature is, "I'm sorry, but I only discuss my condition on a need-to-know basis, and you're not on the list of people who need to know." I guess I was so stunned that she knocked me off-balance. I mean, a crowded airport when you're trying to get to your flight is the last place you'd expect to be accosted, ya know?

I was walking back to a subway stop with a friend one night after going out after work. In NYC we frequently have people on the streetcorners and sidewalks who ask for money for charity or for themselves. Well this one guy asked for money and my friend and I kept on walking. he then proceeded to yell after us that it was ok, I could probably use the money for weight watchers. I almost burst into tears (the comment was clearly not about my size 4 friend) until I realized that if someone has to beg for money (this was not a charity worker) then his life must be worse than mine and if it makes him feel better to call me fat then so be it.

FYI I am 5'4" and about 160 - so a size 10/12. Not fat but not skinny either. I always tell my euro husband that "everything is bigger in America, even the women".  ;D

This is a very emotional one for me, but I'm going to share it anyway.

Two years ago I had my beloved cat, Cutie Pie, put down. She was sick and we couldn't cure her, so we figured this was best. I stayed in the room with her while the vet did the injection and watched her pupils dilate. The vet was very, VERY WONDERFUL to me and he gave me a hug and said "Take as long as you need" as well as telling me all those things about how she might take a reflex breath and stuff. Cutie Pie didn't do that, she was gone. When I had gained some control of myself, I wrapped her up in the towel I brought for this purpose(I later buried her in my back yard at home) and walked out to face my parents. They both gave me a hug and dad went to the counter to pay for the visit while mom went out to the car.

Meanwhile, I stood by the door, holding Cutie Pie. She was wrapped up completely so you couldn't see her. While I was there this older woman walked over and asked me what happened.

"This is my cat. I just had her put down. I'm going to bury her at home." I said.

The woman reached towards the towel, "Can I see?"

I jerked back and GLARED at her, "No!"

"It's not like the cat will know the difference." said the woman.

At this point I was fighting not to scream. I said, "Ma'am, it's none of your business. Her soul is in Heaven now, but I still have the responsibility of treating her body with respect because I love her. Please go away."

Now the lady leaned back and crossed her arms and her mouth pursed up into a line. Then she smiled at me and said in a sickly sweet voice, "Honey, I'm a Jehova's Witness," she thrust a pamphlet at me and went on, "and according to the bible, animals don't have souls. Your cat is dead and gone and you'll never see her again once she's buried."

I totally lost it right there and screamed, "Shove that pamphlet and fake religion up your butt, you lying b*tch!" (not very mature or polite of me, but I wasn't in my right mind at all)

My dad, who is a very intimidating man, came over and ordered me to get out into the car with my mom. Then he exchanged words with the woman. I saw him point his finger at the lady, then at me, and then he slammed the door open and came out looking really mad. I still don't know what he said to her, but I really hope she learned what NOT to say to a grieving pet owner!

I know it's been a while since the experience.  And, I don't want continue to make you face this situation - even in your memory.  But, can I offer you a cyber hug?  You need one after experiencing this.  And, know that, as I hug you, I'm really fighting back tears myself right now.  That was just so wrong.  It was so wrong. :'(

*hugs Dotty back* I just get so...so mad! No offense to any JW's here, but I never believed it to be a real religion anyway since it's based on a MISTRANSLATION of text in the bible.

Plus you just do not tell a grieving pet owner that animals don't have souls. :`(

A former friend called my unborn child a bastard, to my face.

:o  No wonder she's a former friend.  Why on earth would someone do that?

I can only guess that her intention was to hurt me - and she did. It was almost 20 years ago, and I will never forget how humiliated I felt (there were others in the area who could hear her), nor will I forget the anger I felt on behalf of my innocent baby, who did not deserve to be denigrated.

2.  Not only did one of BF's (female) coworkers corner him in the break room to ask if my breasts were real, she asked him if she could feel them!

Uh...yeah.

I was a 34 K--yes, you read that right...a K.

The week before I went in for my reduction (yes!!!!!!) I had a married co-worker come into my office and ask me if I was really getting a reduction.  I was a little put off by his question, but I replied that I was.  He then begged me to let him see my breasts before the operation.   :o

The answer was not only "no!", but "get the h3ll out of my office!".

He left the company shortly after that when he started showing pictures of his wife in the bathtub to the other male workers.

This story is about my wonderful mum,and what she told me a little while back.
After my mum who will be only 60 in January, has lived in a retirement village for the past 3,going on 4 years,in a self-contained unit, where she lives independantly..but also has access to the 'community' if she wishes..being on her own since dad passed away back in '97.

Anyhow, she is with a few travelling/friendship clubs to be able to have days out, weekends or hoildays away etc

One evening, one of her womens groups had planned to go out to dinner, like a bistro or something. Tables were booked,so everyone could sit together, have dinner and a few drinks(if wanted),chat etc

Now,like me,she is also overweight(sorry mum, thats the last thing people should be concerned about..but does pertain to the story)

So mum sits at the table(or one of the marked tables)and sat at the end seat, figuring that cause also couples attend, and shes only single, makes sense just to take one spot and not have to re-shuffle again to make room for couples or others.

She was early and settled in as more and more people arrived and also took their seats,as you do.
One women who mum didnt really recognise, plus a couple of her *presummed*friends were making their way to where mum was sitting, and for some reason,as she was trying to get her way past mum to the vacant seats at the table, glared at her and mumbled something about 'oh breathe in,we have to get past'

I love my mum and think she is a wonderful person, but also not afraid to speak her mind either.
But,being a public setting and ment to be a nice night out for dinner with a group of ladies, mum said something about 'oh,im sorry,i didnt realise i was in the way so much..i'll to move to the across to the other side' figuring that instead of being out in the aisle, the window/wall seat would be out of the way of everyones path.

Then it was time for everyone to go up and order their meal, get salads or soups, drinks etc.

The way the women had sat,now also meant that the *rude* women also yet again had to make her way behind mums chair to get out(all in a croweded room)

Mum was talking to other women and said something about that she would go up now to get her dinner before the lines got to big etc,and the *rude*women glared at mum again, and said 'yes, that would be good..i cant get past otherwise'

Mum let it slide, just thinking 'CRUD MONKEYS!,i cant beleive what this women is like..did she just say that?'

So mum just went about getting her dinner, ignoring stupid women section.

Coming back to sit down, yet again,*rude*women came back to sit down, and yet again mumbled something rude under her breath.

Mum exploded that time!!*L*

Shes like' Um,excuse me! I know i am overweight, its very obvious..but im not THAT big,and there is plenty of room to get around and plenty of other seats you could have.I was in this seat first, and trying to enjoy my dinner thank you very much'

I think a pretty much stunned silence feel onto the women(and probably a few others)

Soon after mum just got up and left..i mean really..how would want to stay with people like that anyhow??

I couldnt beleive that people could be so rude! Ok,people might not be able to stand the sight of overweight people, but does being overweight really make you less then a person,or less able to be able to go out and have a nice dinner with friends?

Its meant to be a social group, where friendships can be made..what kind of agenda would make you want to lash out at the first fat person you saw?

There is that old saying that you 'get more bees with honey then vinegar'(or whatever the saying is*L*)

Aside from being highly rude, also found it bizarre at the reaction and behaviour of some people out in public.

Compared to the bacon-fed knave who said cats don't have souls this is kid stuff, but still bizarre.  I've told this story before.

About 15 years ago I went to work in a dress I had just picked up from the cleaners the day before.  Normally the cleaner puts the number tag on the size tag and I had removed it, but didn't see the tag that was stapled to the hem.  Someone in the elevator noticed it and pointed it out.  Also in the elevator were three people from the 38th floor, a French company or embassy or something.  The two French women began laughing at my annoyance at this discovery.  I took a breath, looked them straight in the eye, and said -- in perfect Parisian -- "Les americains stupides sont tres amusants, n'est-ce pas?"

They were stunned into silence.  I held my laughter until the elevator door closed behind them (my office was on 40).

For the rest of the time they were in the building they avoided me or were completely silent in my presence.

Quickly before my story...
To Cyndi:Why would anyone want to see your deceased cat?? Jesus....I am sorry that happened to you and I have to say that no one knows who's ensouled and who's not. Anyone who would be so vicious has no soul and I don't give a tinker's dingdangity what she calls herself, that was foul.
To MsMoonbunny: These people are talking about you like your chin drags the ground or something!!! For heaven's sakes it's scoliosis, not a third eye!! I'm sorry you went through that!
To Cathy F: There are no words. I was sickened by that person's comment to you, absolutely sickened.
Now, my story:
I was sitting at one of the computers in the common area of my school's library. The seats are pretty close together as the computers are too so you literally sit next to people. Which I do not have a problem with. The computer towers are on the floor under the computers.
A girl with waist length braids walked up to the computer next to me, squatted to put a disc in the tower and THREW HER HAIR IN MY LAP. You heard me, she threw her hair in my lap. I scooched over and dropped her hair off me and she glared at me and said "Well I'm SAW-ry, I didn't want my hair to get on the floor!"
Later a friend of mine said I should have shifted in my seat, sat on her hair and cut one...I could never do that, but I laughed anyway. My God, what if I had been nasty or something? And God knows what she had in her hair that she slung all over me...repulsive....
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....

Tell me about it. It's not like, some kind of public offense to have a small physical deformity; after all, I've seen people with stumps for arms hold down jobs, drive, and live as normal a life as I've been living! And their impairment is something that is potentially more limiting than my spine being a slight bit out of whack.

Apparently the friends I was out with last night didn't have a problem with it, and one of those 2 friends...well...let's just say it's been an interesting couple of days between us, shall we?
