I know we're still only friends, but it feels more and more like things are going in the right direction. Sometimes it scares me...but I'm trying to let things take their course and just hope it works out for the best. Because it feels "right" - I'm sure y'all know what I'm talking about - and it has from the beginning.
We met by pure chance in the parking lot at work one day, and even though I was initially kind of weirded out (he was looking at the Mickey Mouse shirt I was wearing, and called me over to his car), I felt "something." Not a bad "something," like, "stay away from this guy," but a good "something." It was just the weirdest thing.
Then Friday of that same week, after some initial digging to locate him in the County email directory (I got lucky and found him on the first try!) I invited him along with a fellow clerk (my good friend Kellie) on a Starbucks break across the way, because it was my next-to-last week at that office (I was moving on to a new position). Kellie was there as somewhat of a "buffer" - just in case things got awkward, and also as a third-party "observer" to see if what I saw wasn't all just in my head. According to her, the sparks were flying - she said she felt the "bubble seal off" and leave her standing outside of it the moment he walked up to us and Paul and I started talking.
Breaks in the County are 15 minutes long - we ended up taking a 45 minute
break (we lost complete track of time), but being that it was my next-to-last week at that position, no one (surprisingly) said anything - probably because it was a late Friday afternoon in the middle of the month, which tends to be a slower day than Fridays at the beginning or end of any given month in my field (social services).
From there it's just all been a wonderful friendship, save for one small fight, for which he took responsibility and took the initiative to apologize. It was that moment that I figured out he was a real man and a true gentleman. We've been super-tight ever since, and even though his work schedule doesn't permit him much free time, he's been making a lot of effort to come out and see me while I'm home and off work.
And that's what I'm hoping to build on - the friendship. We've developed a really strong bond and I want to keep building on that, because I think we've got the potential for something really beautiful, if it goes in the right direction.
...wow, did this whole post just make me sound like a sap, or what?
