My former sister in law, Husband #4 and my two nieces moved to Maine from Indiana. My 19 year old nephew stayed behind. After failing to live independently, he moved to Maine. Former SIL's landlady pitched a fit about having another person in the house, particularly one with a HUGE dog.
So my nephew moved in with my mother and got a job working retail.
He has a half brother who is very successful and well off. While my nephew was in Indiana, his half brother lent him some money. (Half brother is a SAINT, by the way).
To cut to the chase, former SIL ran out of heating oil. She asked her oldest son (my nephew's hb) for a loan. This guy has shelled out thousands. She's his mom, but c'mon, he's paying the freight for Husband #4 and my brother's kids. Plus, everyone in that house has income and a decent amount of it.
Instead of shelling out another dime (and could you blame him?) half brother told her to call my nephew and ask for the money my nephew owed him.
So she did. He gave her most of his paycheck and has $7 for the next two weeks, which includes Christmas. My mom will feed him (and his enormous dog) though.
Did I mention former SIL has a giant big screen TV and a new (as in NOT pre-owned) car?
