My DH is a great thank-you note writer.  He writes them for many things other than gifts such as dinner invitations, favors people do for us, etc.  People have commented to my parents and his how nice it is to recieve a note from him and how personal the notes are.  Now that we have kids, they are learning to write notes too.  The 5 year old writes his own and the 2 year olds draw a picture.  Some people may think that we write too many notes but if the worst thing someone says about my family is that we are "too polite"  I can live with that.
