Note to CornNuts fans: CornNuts are loud and crunchy, and if you're not eating them yourself, they tend to stink up a room. There is no subtle/polite/quiet way to eat CornNuts in class. Really. Don't even try it.

(yes, I've seen someone attempt to eat CornNuts in class. I wanted to kick him in the shins. And steal his CornNuts, because I love them. But I won't eat them in class, ever, because they are quite possibly the loudest food on the face of the earth! And the flavored ones smell funky.)

I worked for two years at a night college. We had to put a ban on food in the classrooms because people were abusing the policy. They were spilling full cans of sodas and not cleaning it up, dropping greasy pizza pieces onto the chairs, etc. Students were livid when we set the ban because they were just coming from work and didn't have time to eat dinner. But how else were we going to keep our expensive classroom furniture clean?

This is why I really enjoyed my music theory and music history teachers classes. During exams they would put on some quiet (instrumental) music that was not distracting but would drown out any noises that might happen. One girl always brought a container of bacon from the dining hall and would sit there and crunch it. Not as loud as an apple, but the music sure helped.

I think I'd have a harder time concentrating with the aroma of bacon than the sounds of an apple.  I'm like that dog in the Beggin Strips ad.  Bacon! BACON!  BACON!!!

Wow......and I thought it was bad when I saw an overturned paper coffee cup in a practice room, with coffee that had spilled out and dried and crusted over, thereby adhering the cup to the floor.

I have a problem being in a confined place were someone is eating something that reeks of peanut oil. I don't react, but it makes me queasy. If it is my space (my house, computer lab), I'll ask them to stop. Teacher in services always seem to have candy on the tables - lots of chocolate. I've spent entire in services sitting on the floor away from the main group because of the peanut containing candy was making me queasy.
