My addition to the list:
*Please obey the "15 items or less" rule in the express checkout line, and if you have items that are going to take some time to ring up, choose another line!
I became irked last night at the grocery store, when I went to one of the two express line with my two items and found that the woman in front of me had a stack of gift cards (my grocery store sells a variety of them) that she needed to have activated. Activating gift cards can take some time, so I think it was inconsiderate for her to have chosen the express lane, even if she had less than 15 cards (I couldn't tell, but it was a large amount). One card refused to scan, so the cashier had to call the manager over. It was then that I stepped out of that line and went into the other express line.
I've also seen people unload way more than 15 items in the express lines - at grocery stores and at Target and other retail stores. The cashiers just don't seem to enforce the item limit any more.
I miss having express lines that are "cash only." My grocery store used to have them, but now the express lines accept checks, credit cards and debit cards, too, and to me, there is nothing "express" about writing out a check (particularly since many people don't bother to get their checkbooks out and start writing until after their groceries are all bagged and totaled). Credit cards and debit cards are little faster, but not as fast as cash.
Am I the only one who misses "cash only" lines, or am I just too impatient? Or am I odd because I prefer to pay in cash for many things, particularly when I go to the grocery store and only buy a small number of items? I do use my debit card once a week or so on my "big" grocery store day, but I never go into the express line for that.
