Speaking of cutesy ringer tones.  Today, after I started this thread, I was in the school office.  I just today finished my Engineering Master's Degree.  Everything stopped when we heard this loud noise.  I am talking loud speaker "Evaculate the building" type loud.  We are trying to location the location of the noise when the secretary comes running up.  It turns out it was her cell phone ringer!  It was so loud, we all thought it was the fire alarm at first.

A buddy of mine said that when they lived in San Francisco, several of their friends (different households) had a 'white only' rule.  Not racists.  But their homes were decorated in white.  White carpet, white furniture, etc.  Guests were only allowed to drink white drinks.  White wine, vodka, water, Sprite.  Even Scotch was too dark.  No juice.  He said they brought red wine the first time they visited one of these people, and the hosts were horrified.

Hoo, did you ever watch the original Absolutely Fabulous series? Where Eddie & Patsy visit their friends with an all-white house and they can't find anything? Hee, hee...

My #1 rule is Make sure you aren't discussing anything you don't want the general public to overhear. My husband has had the pleasure (?) of overhearing two different famous people discussing 1/the purchase & sale of stolen motorcycles and 2/a desperate and pornographic voicemail left on a mistress' phone. Both were in very public waiting areas, neither of them even bothered to lower their voices! It was pretty shocking that these guys would forget they were recognizable and discuss such things in public. They had no way of knowing if my husband was a reporter or worked in law enforcement. Luckily for them he's neither, but it shows you just how casual people have gotten about cell phone usage.

I rarely use our cell phone.... yes, we share one phone.  But I do have a few personal rules.

1. In the car only if Hubby is driving.
2. NEVER during the playing od the National Anthem, TAPS, or retreat.
3. Never at a funeral.
4. Never at a wedding
5. Never in a church.
6. Never in a Hospital ~ Go outside
7. Never let my friend put me on hold while she yells at her kids ON MY MINUTES. (She has unlimited, I do not)  She tried it once and "we got disconnected"

As a matter of fact, very few people have our cell number as we got it for when Hubby is on military assignments. I use the home phone.

However, the phone is on vibrate or silent, hidden in my pocket, and if I get a call, I leave the theater (or what-have-you) and take the call where it won't disturb others.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.  You are truly polite!

I cannot stand it when I am in a movie and someone takes a phone call in the theater!  Why the heck would someone pay money to see a movie, and then have a phone conversation or text all the way through it?  That is beyond dumb.  And then when you ask them politely to stop, they cuss you out.  Next time that happens I WILL get up and tell the manager.

I live in San Francisco, and yes, I can confirm that this "all white" decorating scheme was very popular and trendy a few years ago.   I can't remember any specific rules about only serving white drinks...although if everything in my living room was white, I don't think I would be serving red wine!
