A sighting of the SSMyConvenienceIsMoreImportantThanYourSafety
There is an interstate that runs through my area. At one of the major exits, a company builds a major retail/commercial/residential development. The intersection to get into that complex is busy a good deal of the day. For the traffic coming off the interstate, there is a long turn lane that can hold well over a dozen vehicles. But, during busy times, there may be cars sitting in the inside travel lane waiting to enter that turn lane. Cars in the travel lane have to stop and wait for people to move into the turn lane or go around them.
A week or so ago, I exited off the interstate with the intention of going to a place further down the road from this complex. I ended up in the inside travel lane, right next to the turn lane. Sure enough, there was a white SUV sitting partially in the turn lane and partially in the travel lane. It was far enough out, that I could not get around it without going into the other travel lane which was busy and not likely to happen. So, I wait until that SUV can get fully into the turn lane. A few other cars come up behind me as well. A short time after I stopped, the turn lane light goes green and the vehicles begin to slowly move forward.
Just as the car ahead of the white SUV moves forward, a blue car comes barrelling around me from the outside travel lane, crosses the travel lane I am in, and dodges in between the SUV and the car just ahead of it. It was basically a blur and it took my brain a second to realize this guy's move.
This was a split second before the SUV moved forward. A half-a-second later and the SUV, and possibly me, could have been involved in a bad accident. It scared me silly. Why would waiting a few seconds for the traffic to clear be so bad that you would risk your life and the lives of other people?
