SS Driver today while I was leaving work. Traffic is horrendous during rush hour in my city. My work's storefront is in a busy strip mall with two exits/entrances. A very busy, divided 45 mph main road runs down the front. Front exit only allows a right turn North. Rear exit allows a usually easy right turn East (downtown) or left to the West which has two lanes- one for making a left onto the Main Road and one for going straight West or turning right North. Going left to Main Road isn't too hard usually, but you do have to be careful of people whipping down the wrong side of the road to get into the left turning lane early.

SS decided they wanted to go West which has a turn lane accessible from the strip mall if you turn onto Main Road from the front exit, or make a very difficult to impossible left turn to go West down the side street from the rear exit during rush hour. Turn Lane was backed up a good 50' past the mall exit so he decided to go blasting THE WRONG WAY down Main Road to get into that lane! I thought they had just made a mistake and laid on my horn to alert them only to see them dart into the turn lane. They could have gone out the rear exit, turned East, made a quick U-turn in an abandoned parking lot and only taken a few minutes longer instead of vying for a Darwin Award.

HorseFreak - she sounds like the moms at my som's school during morning car pool. Giant "no left turn" signs and there they sit blocking traffic to make illegal, unsafe turns or driving the wrong way down the road

In light of the information in this thread, you'd better believe that the next time the SyFy channel takes submissions for their next TV movie, I'll be making sure that flesh-eating Nazi raccoons are on the list.

The theme song alone would be awesome.  Kind of an "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" and "G.I.Joe Theme Song" cross.

Movie SS.

My husband convinced me that seeing the new Thor movie on opening weekend was a thing to do.  This visit just convinced me that movies aren't worth it anymore.

SS 1: The theater has stadium seating, but your view can be interrupted if people wear hats. SS in front of me was wearing a hat with an oversized pompom and was perched on top of her head rather than pulled down.  I leaned forward and excused myself and asked if she would mind pulling her hat down or taking it off because it was blocking part of my view.  Cue both her and her friend going on a profanity laden rant about - get this - rude people and how I could move my fat donkey's behind somewhere else.  They were so obnoxious that someone else called the manager to settle them down.

SS 2: The couple that brought 2 small children to a 9 pm showing and made no effort to quiet the singing, dancing in the aisles, and screeching.

SS 3: everyone who just had to play on their phone during the movie. Flashing screens are very distracting.

All future movies will be watched at home or at the super awesome but more expensive theater in midtown. They have ninja ushers who don't put up with anything. Plus, they sell wine.

SS Parent driver this morning.

SS driver has her two small snowflakes in the back seat, who are frequently hitting each other, but that isn't the point.
SS driver has a long haired lap dog that she is playing with, instead of paying attention to traffic.

I was behind SSD and we were in the lane to turn right onto a 4 lane divided road. I notice that there are no cars coming, and look to see if SSD noticed. Not so much, so I tap on my horn. SSD glares at me in her rear view, places her dog on the other seat and does not go into the completely clear lanes until I honked again.  ::)

I ended up behind her on the road, and she was weaving from one side of the lane to the other. As I went to pass her safely (using my signals), she tried to change lanes into me (no signalling), so she got another honk.

I feel sorry for the kids and the dog.

Ya know, that might be worth a call to the police dispatch line. I usually try to keep the non-911 numbers dot the local jurisdictions I'm in the most Sade in my phone for just such an occasion.

I have called before, in similar situations, but the dispatchers can't do much unless there is an officer right there.

Let your husband know, that after a few weeks, nothing about the movie changes. Same actors, same story lines, same everything. Except less people because apparently many people do not know about this little secret.

I saw Thor Thanksgiving Weekend and the theater was practically empty. Pretty sure it was still the same movie.

Yup. this is why, when I still went to the movies, I'd wait a week or two, and then try and go on an "off" time or day. So not worth the aggrevation of going when it first opens, and being squished into a fully packed theater, and dealing wiht all sorts of SSs.

However, if one wants to see it in IMAX 3D, one pretty much has to go the first week the movie is out, otherwise it gets bumped from the special theater.

I usually go to either a very early or very late showing, and haven't had any problems with rude patrons.  It might also help that I go all the way to the Regal in Dublin (CA).  The management/employees don't put up with any shenanigans there.

Amen. I'm not even allowed to see certain movies before they've been out for a couple weeks (I work in a theater) and it has to be an "off" time, and I honestly am less stressed when it's just 4 other people and me watching a movie.

I like going out to the movies in the mornings.  One local theater will show movies for $5.50 Saturday and Wednesday mornings before noon, and there are theaters at this place that have really nice leather recliners and any other time it costs more to see a movie in those theaters.

But before noon on Saturdays it's $5.50 and I love taking advantage of that! :) That and seats are reserved so you don't have to worry about people insisting you move over because they couldn't get there in time.  Also this theater has a strict policy on cell phones. Once the movie starts, if you are caught with one on and in use during the movie you get escorted out without a refund.

Very few movies are worth me going immediately to see them.  I usually wait a few days then go.  Otherwise, its easier to buy on demand with cable, sit at home with my own food and drink, when I want etc to watch a newer release.

I'm mostly the same way but if there's a movie out with Johnny Depp, that gets seen first chance I get! :) Preferably opening weekend.

Other movies I can generally wait till they come out to DVD.

My husband and I both want to see Frozen, and I really wanted to see Thor. So when we went to the movies on Thanksgiving weekend, I worked really hard to convince him that we should go see Thor.

Smart man that he is, he agreed with me, and we both patted ourselves on the back for our deductive reasoning skills when we saw the gaggle of small children clearly there to see Frozen. The theater for Thor was still relatively full, but not jam-packed (and we were there early enough to get seats we were happy with).

I like watching movies like Frozen with kids in the audience, and I don't mind their audible reactions, but not on opening weekend! We'll go this weekend or the weekend after instead, and it will be much nicer. :)
