I wore a shirt/jacket over my usual clothes when working at a (now defunct) chain store (similar to Wal-Mart - back in the late 1970s).  A large grocery store wore the same print - Bicentennial theme in Red, White, & Blue.  I learned the hard way to take the durned thing OFF before going shopping on the way home at night........

No one looks at the name tag if you are wearing "a shirt" in the same distinctive print.  Telling them that I worked at *a different store* when they asked where the *whatever-it-was* was kept in THAT store didn't cut any ice with them, either.  I should know where everything in every store in town was just because I was the one person they could find to ASK where what they wanted was...........

*rant off*

Now that I am "that age", I find that it really can be hard to locate things when looking through bifocals.  I am dreading trifocals..............

Back in my early college grunge days I got mistaken for an employee of a drugstore.  While I was wearing cut off jeans, black tights, a giant oversised men's suit vest and Doc Martens.

WHAT??!!  I just stood there staring at the guy like he had grown another head.

I do know that feeling. I had worked for a major supermarket that had been in the Northeast US shortly after I stopped working there, I stopped in another supermarket in the same town because of some decent sales. People who knew me from the other store stopped me to ask where items were then got snarky when I said I didn't know. Nevermind the fact I wasn't even in clothing that fit what the store required their employees to wear.

Oh Amen Reika!  What is it with people who think employee at one store=employee at all stores.  When I am in uniform at my store and on the clock I will do my job, I will be polite and I will assist you to the best of my abilities.  Off the clock, and especially at another store, sod off.

I was once rooting through a discount bin at a grocery store and placing items in the basket I was holding. I glanced up and saw this woman reaching in and taking the items out of my basket for herself!  :o I was so stunned I just glared at her and walked away. There was plenty of room for her to go to the other side and pick items for herself.

I also seem to have a problem in a local grocery store with people thinking I am an employee. I am holding a basket of items wearing my winter coat and hat picking items.  ???

I just don't get it.....
