oops! (minor embarrassing moments)
Sandi Papaya:
The other night I was out with my friend Paul and his friend Randy, who wanted to come along. I just met Randy for the first time when he came with us to have In-N-Out the other day, but I had a totally embarrassing moment with the poor guy.
We were in the middle of a conversation, joking around and teasing each other good-naturedly, but then I had a brain fart and said something about "whatshisface over there" - referring to Randy, who was sitting catty-corner from me.
Paul laughed and said something like, "Ohhh! Denied!" and I just wanted to sink into the floor. I'm usually pretty good with names and faces, and I apologized immediately, laughing at myself the entire time for being such a scrub. Randy was sweet about it, though, and told me not to worry - while Paul kicked in with, "Yeah, she's on a lot of drugs right now." Which led to even more teasing and joking.
Still, I felt so bad for the poor guy. He was nice enough to drive all the way to my house and drive to the burger joint, and I forgot his name in the space of little less than an hour after being introduced! :-\
He took it in stride, but I felt like such a dummy, even if it was a small thing. Ever have something like that happen to you?

I have NO memory for names, they just slip right out of my head.
This is doubly worse for the drama class I'm teaching right now, because all the kids have super difficult Hungarian names. If I can't remeber things like John and Jennifer, how on earth can I remeber Osiya, Atiila, Laszlo or Gyiongyi?
I finally had all my kids right there names on paper and hold it infront of them while I took their picture. One kid called me on what I was doing. He said "You don't know our names do you?" Very embarassing since I have been working with them for two months. But still I smiled and said "NOpe! Not a one! Smile!" Click.

Ooooh can I steal this idea? I'm incrdibly lousy with names, and it's getting a bit awkward when I teach Sunday School. Fortunately my students are currently 4 and 5 ... they're so proud of knowing and spelling their names that I can make a game of it.

What's even worse is when someone comes up to me in Kroger and calls, "Hi, *Gui*, how are you?". As usual, I have no idea who this lady is, so as the conversation unfolds, I'm trying to ask leading questions to figure it out. It always turns out to be the school bus driver, or worse, one of the kids' teachers.

haha yeah I do it all the time. I had a class this semester where the girl in my class had the strangest name and to this day I still cant say it right. She calls me out on it but all I can say is I'm trying! I typically say something like "hey you" or if i know them really well "hey babe" (this is college in the deep south, i get hey sug all the time) it seems to work
