I'm excited - just got my holiday gift for DH

We live near NYC and I've  been dying to go to a Broadway show forever but Mr. Swede doesn't think he'd like one. However, they have this show Avenue Q that is supposed to be great - all about living in a city -with peopel and puppets. Sounds silly now that I type it but the music I've heard has been good and the reviews I've read have been better than good. So I got us tickets to go see it in January - orchestra seats near the front  but for a discount. I loooove discounts.
Anyway I'm excited because I really think he will like this. I still don't think he'll want to go to a "regular" musical but I'm looking forward to expanding his horizons a bit. Oh and I want to go too

YOU WILL LOVE THE SHOW!!!

And I'm yelling that because I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Avenue Q. It's hilarious and if you have a bawdy sense of humor, you'll fall out of your seat laughing. I saw it in NYC and when it was in Las Vegas. Buy the soundtrack at some point, because after you see the show, you'll want it so you can sing along. I still play it in my car on my annoyingly short, yet very trafficky, commute. It keeps the road rage from spilling out.

How much have you heard about it? If you haven't heard a lot of details, I should warn you to leave all sensitivities (and sensibilities) at the door.

I've heard they basically make fun of everyone - race, religion, health issues, sexual orientation. Is that close?

DH rarely gets offended so I'm not worried about him.

I'm glad you saw it and loved it! Do you think a typical sports oriented 30 something guy whose never seen a musical but thinks they are bad anyway would like it? I'm really hoping so!

Yup! My favorite songs are "Schadenfreude", "The Internet is for Porn", and "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist".

I'm a huge fan of blunt, no-holds-barred, offend-everyone humor. For instance, Chris Rock is my favorite comedian. Avenue Q is a lot like Sesame Street gone bad. The puppet designers actually did some SS work, I think. The puppets are very cute and that's what makes the bawdiness all that much funnier.

I think he'll like it! It's not your typical musical and it has a way of sucking you in. I'll bet money on him bursting into the occasional "What do you do... with a BA in English?" after he sees it.
