Last night I went to let Abby and Andi in and jumped up on the arm chair as this very large dog walked in from my back yard - followed by Abby and Andi.
My second reaction was "How the hell did Angel get over here" because the dog looked remarkably like Sis's dog. It took me 10 minutes to get all three dogs out the door again. They knocked a good number of the ornaments off the Tree (Thankfully the lower ones are unbreakable because of Loren). Once I had them outside (they were all friendly with each other tails wagging.) I tried to look at the other dogs tags, but the tag with his address was worn down.
I went next door to see if they have a visitor doggy. No
I tried the people behind me, because they do have a large dog. But they didn't answer - all the lights were on.
Then I decided to try the people on the other side of me. The least likely because we have two fences between our yards. When I'm walking back past my house. My visitor is squeezing out under the gate. I didn't want to try and stop him even though, he seemed friendly.
I hope he heads home the same as Abby did when she jumped out an open window (through the screen).
I've been saving up for hardwood floors, I think I'm buying a new fence instead.
What else could I have done to find the dogs owners?
How do I approach the neighbors about the fence being replaced? We all have dogs, and they have kids or grandkids (next door babysits the grandkids every day), so we have to make it safe for them. The fences are on the property line and we are mutually responsible. That is part of the problem.
We have those stupid "good neighbor" fences. So one section I see the boards only, next section I have the rails and the boards are on the other side. I would love to "give" them the board only side and have the rails on my side. It makes me feel more secure, and I can hang hanging baskets off the rails.
The backyard neighbor doesn't nail down the boards that come loose on his side. I've put up chicken wire to keep my dogs from pushing through, but that isn't working anymore.
I'm going to check with BIL, a contractor, about temporally putting some outdoor grade plywood up on those sections to keep my two escape artists in their yard. I'll need to borrow some tools from Sis and BIL (they were our Dad's tools so we share them).
Oh, This morning I checked my dog's tags. Their address tag has worn away a good deal. Still readable, but becomeing harder to read. So I'm going to buy them new tags when the shops open this morning. Check your dogs tags, and make sure their address tag is readable.
