A little poem
« on: December 17, 2006, 10:26:31 AM »
One of the ladies in my local homemaker's group read this for us at our Christmas potluck and it made me laugh!  I *totally* identify with the author:

‘Twas the month after Christmas - Cute Poem for all

‘Twas the month after Christmas, and all through the house,
Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I'd taste
At holiday parties had gone to my waist.
When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber)
I'd remembered the marvelous meals I'd prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,
The punch and the candy, the bread and the cheese
And the way I'd not said, "No Thank You, Please."
As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt
And prepared once again to do battle with dirt---
I said to myself, as I only can "you can't spend a winter disguised as a man"
So--- away with the last of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
"Till all the additional ounces has vanished.
I won't have a cookie--- not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.
I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie,
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.
I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore---
But isn't it that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy New Year to all and to all a Good Diet!

Man, that was depressing...the grand binge started at Thanksgiving and I'm going to have to do some kind of hairshirt penance to get my jeans to stop squeezing....
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....

Love the poem.

I thought menopause was going to be a graceful relaxation of the rules on what to eat - when the endocrine specialist checking out why I had symptoms (not relevant) took enough blood & urine samples to do a COMPLETE workup (I suppose to make sure that I wasn't pregnant, had a tumor releasing male hormones, or something else going on besides what I had noticed and reported to my general practioner).

Turns out that complete workup caught insulin resistance beginning and just before April First, I started a serious weight loss program.  I like needles.  They are my favorite playthings.  In the sewing room.  When knitting or embroidering.

When they are stabbing into ME, they are scarier than watching a Steven King movie just before bedtime.......on a dark and stormy night........when the DH is out of town.

So - for the first time since 1993, I am actually going to be weighing less for the New Year than I did in November on Thanksgiving Day.  In 1993, I had a baby the week before Thanksgiving..........(USA - Thanksgiving is the third Thursday in November).

Let sleeping dragons be.......morning breath......need I say more?

That's pretty funny. :)  Of course, I still work out during the Christmas holidays......I'll be at the gym on Christmas Eve AND Boxing Day, and since it's not open on Christmas Day itself, I'm going to try to sneak in a power walk and/or some calisthenics in my room at some point.  I know that sounds pious, but going without exercise, or feeling like I've eaten too much, actually makes me feel physically sick.
