Is anyone taking Pristiq?
« on: May 13, 2009, 05:35:54 PM »
My GP has prescribed this (an antidepressant) for me and I would like others thoughts on it.  She gave me some samples and I go back in a couple of weeks.

Thanks  :-\

Been on it for....hrm.  3 months?  4?  I was on Effexor before it.  (Note: I'm also on Lithium)  The way my psych explained it to me was that it's a lot like Effexor in how it works...it's just a metabolite of the same drug, so it absorbs quicker, and you can take a smaller dose.

I haven't noticed any difference in how I feel since switching over.  It DOES irritate your stomach, so take it with food.  Also, there's a card you can get from the manufacturer that will cut your copay in half.

PM me if you want more info or just want to chat about it.

I'm on Effexor which, as Kiara said, is a very-closely-related drug.  I've found it exceptionally helpful (been about 6 months now).  I take it at bedtime, as some of these types of meds have a tendency to make me sleepy.

And consider me another offer for info/chat via PM.

Best of luck!

Thanks, Kiara and TasWind

I took first dose today so will see how it goes.  Had a fasting blood test for cholesterol, etc then to McDonalds for breakfast   ;D

I will see how it goes.  I have been on anti-deps off and on since about 92 - first Paxil, then Effxor, cymbalta.  Family things have been piling up since daddy died five years ago, so.....

thanks again.  may pm y'all if I have some questions after a few days.

I just started taking it two months ago!  To be clear, I don't suffer from depression, but I've been very edgy recently and I suspect I may be getting premenopausal.  It just evens me out a little bit with no side effects.

Yep.  About a month now.

I was taking Effexor XR before and switched over to the Pristiq after my last doctor's appointment.  I have weird PMS, which is why I've been taking the meds.  I needed something to level out those times of the month.

Seems to be working fine.  No side effects to speak of that I can tell.

And, I do love that "1/2 your copay back" thing!  That makes me happy just by itself! :D

I seem to be doing OK.  The first couple of days, I was real shakey with a "nervous" stomach.  I seemed to have leveled off.  I see Dr. on Wed. and probably will go on at least a 3 month supply.  In the evenings when i go home, it is hard to sit and read when that is what all I wanted to do before.  I am thinking about doing stuff to the house (even <gasp> housework); painting the bedroom, so guess I am havig more energy.

Thanks for asking Tas_wind   ;)

I appreciate ya!

modified to add:  seems like I have lost a little weight.  Just not hungry - but am terribly c-pated (TMI)  having to drink more fluids.

I have been taking this for about a month now, feel ok, I've noticed I've lost about 5 lbs (not really hungry).  Not sure if it's from Pristiq or my regular trips to the gym, but I'm not complaining.
