Tipping a friend?

(1/1)

I'm not sure if this belongs on the family board or here, I'm sorry if I'm posting too many topics, I just have a lot of questions!

So as some of you know my 2 year old has the chicken pox which means she's out of school. I can not take off 3 week of work so my friends and family are helping me watch her. My best friend watches her once in a while (typically for about 2-3 hours at a time) for me but she refuses money so I was wondering what would be the best way to let her know how grateful I am that she's helping me? Typically I'll bake her a dozen of her favorite cookies or this morning I made her breakfast for coming over(waffles, blueberry muffins, eggs, grits, all pretty much made from scratch) but is this enough? We're both college students so that's why she refuses any money because it's tight for both of us. I just want to let her know that I appreciate her.

You should do something to let her know you appreciate her, but in this case I'm not sure what. Maybe you could get her a gas card or a gift certificate to your college bookstore for Christmas-something she could use. I don't know. I hope this helps.

Hi -

I know you said she won't accept money, but what about a gift card for movie tickets or video rental, or a gift card for a coffee shop that she likes? When I was in college, I loved receiving gift cards for evenings out or a movie rental, since I didn't have a lot of money for entertainment.

Or - treat her to a girls' night/girls' day out once your child is well. Plan on buying her lunch or dinner, or pay for a manicure for her. The rest of the time, you can do something inexpensive, like window shopping or watching favorite "chick flicks."

Hi Mondrian

What you are doing sounds lovely, so I would keep doing, plus verbally (or in a card) telling her how much your appreciate her help. If you can afford it, the other ideas sound great too.

Hope your little one gets better soon,
Alison

PS Wish I could come over from Oz for brekkie at your place!
