What is everyone reading??
« on: December 18, 2006, 08:30:36 PM »
I'm a huge bibliophile and I love to talk books. So who is reading something really good right now? I'm finishing up the first Harry Potter book again...I realized reading the Harry Potter thread that I've read the later books more than the earlier ones and there are things that I have forgotten. But when I finish it, I'm going to start "Hannibal Rising".
Oh, and I recently finished "Hollywood Babylon". Love that old Hollywood scandal (Johnny Stompanato, William Desmond Taylor, Olive Thomas, Rudy Valentino, heroin, William Randolph Hearst and Marion Davies, you name it!)
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....

I just finished reading "Cell" by Stephen King, am 1/2 way through "Eldest" the second in the series of "Eragon", and after finals this week am going to start James Patterson's "1st to Die".  I'm a huge reader also, my kids and folks say I don't read books, I devour them!  lol

Ive kinda finished up with my books for now..so havent really got anything to read(Nooooo!!)until Christmas Day when i will be getting the new Stephen King book 'Liseys Story'

So,for now,im slowly reading my Notebook magazine which i love. Its a new Aussie mag(though they will ship it worldwide)a lifestyle mag, full of inspiring stories, recipes, how to make your home or 'little things' nicer and stand out, feel at peace etc, stories of real people in real life situations.
Each edition cover has a beautiful flower display..just stunning!
And just like a 'Notebook',you can write personal things for the month, work out your budget etc.

Highly recommened read*S*

Other then that,i love Richard Laymon,Harry Potter series,Terry Goodkind..anything really from romance to horror

I've got a few going right now ;)

The Dante Club by Matthew Pearl (slow going, not all that riveting), Into the Wild (eh, can we say boy without a clue?) and a couple Dragonlance, plus re-reading Anne Bishop's Sebastian

I am currently working my way back through Book 5 of the Dark Tower Series, aka Wolves of the Calla, by Stephen King.

Also waiting on my copy of Lisey's Story, and just finished reading IT last week.

Can anyone tell I'm on a King kick right now?   :)

Just finished Singled Out by Bella DePaulo--about the way the world perceives singles.  Kind of interesting and annoying at the same time...I agree with a lot of what she had to say, but I thought she got waaaaaay too needlessly political.

Prior to that, I read Intruders by E.E. Richardson.  Granted, it's aimed at kids in the 7th and 8th grade, but I'm a children's librarian and that's what I DO.  For those of you who like scary stories without the guts and gore (I'm one of those people who loves terrifying stories--but I hate blood and guts) this is excellent.  A blended family moves into an old house and discovers that it's haunted by...well, who knows?
I couldn't put it down.

And, because of my "status" as the manga guru at my library (I'm the only adult there who can say "anime" and "manga" without rolling my eyes, so I got the job) I just finished the whole seven volumes of Othello  It's not THAT Othello.  Refers to the game where the pieces can change from black to white.  It's basically a comedy/romance about a teenage girl, Yaya, who is picked on by friends and just about everyone else.  She has no self esteem, acts the doormat...AND has a split personality.  Whenever Yaya is pushed too far, Nana appears to see that "Justice is done."  Nana is everything Yaya isn't--and more.  On the one hand, very funny, on the other hand, a little tiresome after a while, but glad to have read the whole thing thru.

I'm still trying to decide what to take to my brother's house for the Christmas holidays.  I may stick with magazines since there isn't any time to actually READ.

And now that I've blathered on, I will let someone else talk.

Currently reading The Best of H.P. Lovecraft, a gift from a friend's husband.  When I'm done I'm going to start one of Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's St. Germain books; I have a lot of those to catch up on.

Mornings on Horseback: The Story of an Extraordinary Family, a Vanished Way of Life and the Unique Child Who Became Theodore Roosevelt by David McCullough

One of the things I really enjoy about this forum are the music and book recommendations.  The above is one of the books someone had mentioned earlier in the summer and I'm just now getting around to reading it.

plus re-reading Anne Bishop's Sebastian

Her books just keep on getting better, I can't wait until Belladonna (sequel to Sebastian) comes out sometime in 2007.

Sadly I don't have any new books to read, will probably re-read one of Bishop's books or one of my many John Ringo. Hoping I'll be able to hit the library shortly after my move.

Are you on the Anne Bishop yahoo group?  She seems so nice.

And I'm a little tipsy.  Yay for eggnog.  Or really, I'd be more eloquent.

I just finished George R. R. Martin's A Game of Thrones.  Since I can't find A Clash of Kings, I am seriously thinking about skipping that (for now, until I get a copy), and move on to A Storm of Swords.  I'm that desperate.  :P

AlidaDmed: I didn't know she had a Yahoo group, I'll have to look it up. And yay for eggnog, and judging from your comment it's laced with with something good. ;)

Moogle: You really want to read A Clash of Kings first, he writes sooooo much in each book that you don't really want to skip them since the summaries (at least in the copies I've read) don't really do them justice.

CathyF, I loved that book...I know how that sounds! I really like Anne Rule's books. Have you read "Small Sacrifices"? That was a riveting case.
Anyone here biting their nails waiting for Caleb Carr to write another Kreizler book??

I started "A Stolen Season" by Steve Hamilton last night and I'm waiting for the latest Southern Vampire book by Charlaine Harris to arrive.
