This is something of a teaching urban legend in my area - everyone tells the story but no one seems to actually know the teacher this happened to.

A first grade teacher had a student whose name was spelled L-a.  She called the girl "la-ah," and was not corrected. Mom scheduled a conference and angrily informed the teacher she was calling L-a by the wrong name (who knows why L-a did not correct the teacher).  According to legend, mom said, "Her name is Ledasha.  The dash don't be silent."

While not a weird or odd name, like athersgeo, I too have a common name. (Christina) well, growing up I knew two others with my name. Kristina and Khristina respectively. Well we all got shoved into the same eighth grade math class together. Our poor teacher! It got to the point when he said 'Christina' I didn't know who he was talking to. One time he stood in front of my desk and shouted my name three times before I responded.

Then again, this was math class, so I curled into a tiny ball trying to look as small as possible so he didn't see me, hoping that when he said Christina the other two with my name would pick up the slack. It failed... miserably.

Via Facebook, just found out what a very distant relative named her child-

           Quartnee

And in my mind, that first part will never be Court, it will always be Quart. I bet her sister, Zauna feels better about her name now.
That's my purse! I don't know you!

She would forever be Quarknee to me. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quark_(Star_Trek)

Julissa.

Not sure if that's a preexisting genuine name or a jammed together Julie + Melissa.

I think it would go better if Kyeshia had Kyarter, if she was going for family cuteness.

Wonder if her name is pronounced Key-sha or Key-shy-uh  or even Kigh-ee-sha?

This week I saw a Christophor Fabulous.  Yes, the o in what looks like "Christopher" is how it's spelled.

I suppose I should be glad the "Fabulous" was spelled correctly?

Looks like it is a variant name: as in various cultures have used it with that spelling.
