Yes, they are the feminine versions of Nicholas, but in the eyes of the Catholic Church, that didn't cut it. There would have had to be a St. Nicole.

Interestingly enough, my mother also has a name that does not have a saint attached to it, but since her name is Christiane, I guess the priest couldn't object to that. (All right, it was probably not the same priest.)

While we're on the subject of family trees, I have a couple of names to share

Shadrack Meshack and Van Buren, both father and son. I came across these while looking at my family tree recently.

If there are already two kids named Shadrack and Meshack, why not just go ahead and name the third kid Abednego?
Why switch out to Van Buren?

Oh! Sorry, I meant to say that Shadrack's middle name is Meshack. Van Buren is Shadrack's son. Sorry for the confusion!

^^ I'd be facinated to know who was president at the time Van Buren (your ancestor) was born, just out of curiosity.

Somebody's interests switched from Biblical to American history?
Yes that's what I thought as well.

List of names from the last 3 months birth records at the local hospital here:

[...]
Gershom

[...]

OTOH seeing some lovely classics (Beatrice, Mavis).  Boy names that are trending here are Levi and Bentley.

Gershom is a Biblical name.  That was the name of one of Moses' sons.

Yeah I don't necessarily have an issue with any of the names listed, I just found them unusual.

Same with Levi

Levi is another name that was (is?) very popular in Utah. I had many classmates with that name.

I know someone who gave their son the middle name of Danger, just so he could say, "Danger is my middle name."

Just heard of a couple with the surname Munt...They gave their baby boy and ordinary first name, and the middle name Excite.

My dd's friend's name is Montana.  And she HATES it when people ask her why she was named that.  (Her parents were vacationing there and 9 months later.....)
