I know Brandi is a well established name and many people like it (I have nothing against it), but the first time I heard it I was 8 years old and I pondered very hard on the reasons her parents name her after a drink, and an alcoholic one at that.  I wondered why and what were they thinking, and does being named after a drink make you more exotic and exciting?  Because to me such a strange strange choice must make her a very mysterious girl.

Brandy's a fine girl  ;)

Or, she could enter the healing professions, and introduce herself as Medicinal Brandy.

Friend has a coworker named Craven.

And a news report mentions twins named Recant and Recall.

I think your SIL is pulling your leg.  See http://www.snopes.com/racial/language/names.asp. and http://www.snopes.com/racial/language/le-a.asp

And there's no way that "Limejello" would be "lee-MON-gel-oh." The story is "Lemonjello". "Limejello" would end up "lee-may-gel-oh" or something.

Or maybe "Splunge".   >:D

I'm a member of snopes since 01, but thank you.  ;).  Hence the "former ULs" in the title.

I don't think she's pulling my leg.  She's not that kind of person, but I suppose it's possible.  According to her, she's actually had patients with those names.  As a librarian, I've actually some pretty bad names as well.

And I have no idea why Limejello was pronounced that way, but she actually had to clarify the spelling and pronounciation with the patient.

What does "former ULs" mean?  ???
In the United States today, there is a pervasive tendency to treat children as adults, and adults as children.  The options of children are thus steadily expanded, while those of adults are progressively constricted.  The result is unruly children and childish adults.  ~Thomas Szasz

In elementary school I had twin classmates named Timmy and Tommy.

Their full names were Timothy and Tomothy.

That one made me laugh out loud.  Poor Tomothy.

Orangejello (or-ANG-gel-oh)

I actually sorta like the pronunciation on this one. Wouldn't give it to a kid, but I may have to use it for a character someday. Just have to figure out a halfway decent spelling...

Oranngelo might work. I had to double the "n", though, or the "orange" was too obvious.
