Also I was looking through some 2013 issues of People, and there was a tragic story about a girl named Rehteah.  This hurts my brain because I'm pretty good with anagrams and palindromes and I can't not see it as "Heather, but wrong."  (See also, Nevaeh)

My brain goes...it's Heather, but backwards, and then wonders about nominative determinism.  But I have *no* clue how to pronounce it ... Ruh-tea-ah?  Ray-tuh-eh?

It's not quite Heather, though, it's Haether backwards. Unless that was a typo and it really is Rehtaeh. Which, when I think about it, is probably right because I would bet the story referenced was about Rehtaeh Parsons.

I think it's the h and the t being in the "wrong" spots that makes it look rather odd ? I'd guess Reh-Tay-ah.

I know at least three guys--not terribly old nor young--with the name Stacey (or Stacy). I had always thought that a girls' name but apparently not!
I went to school (I am in my 40s) with identical twins who were named Stacy and Tracy.  And they were boys.

Good catch, there was a typo and I just couldn't see it.  Addy is correct about the source too, so I corrected my post above.

Just introduced to new staff member named "Savior".

I did double check it wasn't Xavier with an X, he confirmed that no, it was definitely with an "S".

In my family we had the 'Jack' problem.

There were four generations of men with the same first name.  So, we had 'Jack', 'Big Jack', 'Little Jack' and 'Young Jack'.  Oddly enough, nobody ever got any of the 'Jacks' confused.

A friend is part of a family of Jimmys. (Well, James. But none GO by James.)

I am probably gonna leave some out but here I go. There is:
Jimmy
Little Jimmy (Jimmy's nephew)
Daddy Jimmy (who is grandfather to little jimmy)
Bubba Jimmy (Daddy Jimmy's cousin who was raised as his brother)
Jim Junior (Little Jimmy's dad, Jimmy's Brother)
Jim (Jim Junior's son in law)
and, because... because,
Jenny (Who is male. VERY male. And is Little Jimmy's older brother.)

There is a threat that if the next baby born in the family is a girl they are gonna name her Gem.

Oh, I forgot Baby Jimmy who is in 2nd grade now.

Johnette. I'm guessing her dad's name is John?

Why? Just why?

There's the name Joanna for this very purpose!

There's also Johnna and its 26 variants: http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Johnna

Johnette isn't too bad... Larryette would seem more odd to my ear.  Probably because of knowing a few Jeanettes.

I know an Arryette, but to be fair, she is from a different culture than mine, so it may be a perfectly common name in her home country. It does kind of remind me of Arrietty from The Borrowers, though.

Here's something interesting:  http://mentalfloss.com/article/55389/most-popular-baby-names-state

28 years ago when my son was born, he would have been Emma had he been a girl.  At that time, there were no Emma's around that I knew about.

I haven't finished reading the whole thread but I was watching Say Yes to the Dress on Netflix and the girl was named Duvet, yes after the comforter because the mother thought she would be a comforter to her.
