What's your favorite cheese?
« on: September 07, 2009, 06:24:42 PM »
DF is lactose intolerant.  Recently, we discovered that if he eats small amounts good quality cheese, he doesn't have the attacks.  We're trying to taste a new cheese every weekend.

What's your favorite?

Havarti, by far.

I make grilled cheese with rye bread and Havarti. It is sooo good!!!

Feta cheese is good too, and a little goes a long way.

Gouda off course.
I prefer an old one, but older cheeses are more expensive. However I like too old as well and cheese stores here usually sell too old cheeses cheap ;D

The edible kind.  ;D I don't know if I've had a cheese I didn't like to be honest. I love it all.

I'm currently craving a good brie.
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....

#1 fav is Havarti...so good...good grilled, good with tuna (which is what I specifically buy it for), good just to eat by itself.

#2 Brie...grilled turkey and brie sandwich...gosh that sounds good

#3 Feta the sheep milk kind...cow milk feta is blargh!

but really if it is cheese I like it...well except Limburger...and I am not especially fond of bleu cheese, but I'll eat it.

My favourite "cheese shop" cheese is Double Gloucester.

In the fancy cheese section of the supermarket, Kerrygold's Dubliner.

In the regular cheese section of the supermarket, Cabot's Seriously Sharp Cheddar (used to be called Hunter's) and their Horseradish Cheddar are both great, too.

I love cheese  ;D.

I like most of them, too. I love a good, if pedestrian, pepper jack. Also feta, kasseri, gorgonzola, squishy chevre, even this weird, bright-orange processed stuff with habaneros. Ricotta for baking (it makes divine cookies).

I am a bit fussy about brie, though. I adore it, but some kinds can be a bit too mushroomy for my tastes.

I have yet to try Stilton. I think it intimidates me a little.

Provolone is #1.

Swiss is great on sandwiches, love blue cheese for salads, and mozzarella for anytime.

The best Cheddar I've ever had was a kind called "Rat-trap." Can't find it any more though.

This is quite the educational thread for it's the first time I'm hearing of Havarti. Sounds good. I've yet to try Brie, but plan on it asap.

Get the oldest cheddar you can find. Seriously, I have a four-year-old cheddar in my fridge that is calling to me.

Also, I like my cheese with some flavor, occasionally. If you can order from igourmet.com ...

Cahill's Porter - an English cheddar that has porter mixed in

Red Dragon - a Welsh white cheddar with mustard seeds in it

Harlech Somerdale - a Welsh cheddar with horseradish and parsley

Cotswold - an English double-Gloucester-type with onions in it

Jalsburg.  It's kind of like Swiss but from another country.  Denmark, I think.

Havarti is good, too.

I also like plain, boring cheddar.  Medium to old for eating, old to extra old for cooking.  I don't touch the mild as I find it rubbery.
I have CDO.  It is like OCD but with the letters in alphabetical order, as they should be.

Cheese is my favorite.  All of it.  I like sharper flavors, LOVE feta, crumbled bleu in a ceasar is divine, grilled havarti is heaven.  Ooey warm brie is wonderful.   I can't pick just one!!

I love going to the cheese counter because they let me try all the different cheeses.  Yummy!

Quebec 8-year cheddar is my favourite. I immigrated to Canada just for that. OK, exaggerating, but it is my favourite cheese.

There's a marscapone/gorgonzola torte which I love. I also love gorgonzola dolce in its own right.

Feta, sheep's milk only as Dazi said.

I love a chevre (soft, creamy, lightly tangy goat's milk cheese), with or without herbs/garlic.

I love igourmet.com - I used to treat myself with some Australian water wheels, marascapone/gorgonzola torte, duck salami, and canned Belgian chocolates with nuts every few months. I wish they'd get duck salami back in the stock - that stuff is utterly evil.
