Hidden e-mail (again) and reactivation?
« on: December 19, 2006, 08:07:50 PM »
As was mentioned in another thread, I had my e-mail address checked as "hidden" in my profile, but I could see it myself. I changed the e-mail address to my Yahoo account.

When I did, I was locked out and was told that a reactivation e-mail was needed.

I clicked on the link and received four! (count 'em!) reactivation code e-mails in my Yahoo account.

Why did I have to reactiviate? And why four e-mails?

Also, if I "hide" my e-mail, does that mean no one can e-mail me through my profile?  ???

I'm still learning my way around here.

I think I have the forum settings set at requiring only one functional email address per member ID.  Which is why you had to reactivate.  Why you were sent four such notices is unclear but at least the software cannot be faulted for lack of tenacity!

As for whether people can email you if the address is hidden, I don't know.  Someone other than an Admin needs to check it for you once you've hidden it.    I see everyone's email addresses whether they hid them or not.

Your email says "hidden" to me. And I can send you a personal message, but not an email in any form. Is that good enough? :)
You are only young once. After that you have to think up some other excuse.

Okay, cool, although I guess I could "unhide" the address I'm using now.

Better to keep it hidden, though, since I almost never remember to check that account. It's become a Spam repository more than anything.  :P

Personally I think Private Messaging is just as good, if not better than email.   Someone can always PM you and then you can give them the email address.

Private messaging is quite cool here.  It even emails you to tell you there's a message.
