Facebook: did my nephew un-Friend me?
« on: October 23, 2009, 10:41:45 PM »
I got a "suggestion" in the right column on my newsfeed/Home page.

it said, "reconnect with Jonathan Lastname. You have 3 mutual friends."

REconnect.

Does that me he defriended me? Or is it something else?

Though, I can see a lot of his stuff, but I'd have thought his mom would make him set his controls to a pretty high privacy level.

Is he still on your friends list?  If he isn't, he probably did defriend you.  But it may have happened by accident.  I defriended someone by accident once (I still don't know how I did it exactly) but poof she was gone (and she said she didn't defriend me, so...)   I dunno.

well that means that you are not currently friends with that facebook account.  Were you FB friends with your nephew previously?  See if you still are - he may have accounts under 2 different e-mail addresses and you are only friends with one of them.  Or maybe you accidentally got disconnected - I have one cousin I have had to refriend about 4 times - no idea what's going on there.

Was it an add or an actual friend suggestion?  If it was a friend suggestion then he probably has.  Go to his profile and see if there is the add me as a friend button at the top.  That said facebook is messing with their format again so it is possible it is a glitch.

Seems like Facebook did an update. I've gotten a few suggestions this evening to "reconnect" with people on my friends list that I haven't contacted in awhile.

Well, the "add a friend" button is visible on his profile, so that means we're not friends.

It would stink if the "reconnect" thing is an automated attempt that gets made eventually after someone un-friends you!!!

I mean, my nephew ought to be able to cut his loving auntie out of his Facebook life without having to go through the drama of blocking her, without FACEBOOK calling her attention to it!  :o

I just got a Reconnect thing with someone I'm still friends with too!

FB is really weird sometimes.

I've seen the same thing on the right of my FB account. I checked my Friends list and the person was still in it. I think  it's because we haven't "spoken" in a while. But, FB has changed...AGAIN! Yippeee.

FB is just being weird.

I went to someone's profile today and it said "Add as Friend" at the top of her profile.  Which caused me to blink a lot b/c I was intending to defriend and made me wonder why she had access to what she did.

I opened in another browser and she was on my friends list.

whoops, when I posted earlier I hadn't realized quite how many new changes facebook had.  All or most of what I said is probably wrong.

Yeah I just noticed this new feature on Facebook and thought "Great now even my social network is guilting me for not being social."

Apparently the wife of one of my former coworkers got a message that she needed to reconnect with her husband. So she wrote on his wall a message that said something to the effect of 'Hi honey, Facebook told us that we needed to reconnect, so I'll see you when I get home!'

I giggled over that one.  ;D

Mine is saying that as well. If you look under the pic it will say "Write on their wall". I am pretty sure it just means you haven't talked on FB to them lately.

Is there any way to find out how Facebook works without joining Facebook? I've lived happily without it thus far, but some people I like have asked to be my Facebook friend and, of course, I'd have to join it to do that...there doesn't seem to be anything on the site that shows how it works unless one registers. I'd like to know what it is and what it does before jumping in!

I don't know about that.  But you can probably create a new email address at hotmail and yahoo to sign in and then see how it works.
