I think my response would have been something to the effect of

'MMMM delicious cow mucus"

Perhaps is is PA, but it also does shut down half her argument if you don't mind what she calls it.   This in a Homer Simpson voice was honestly my first reaction to her post.

That reminds me of the time I got on the elevator at work w/ a McDonald's lunch in my hand.

The militant anti-calorie, pro-health person said, in a very superior tone of voice, "Did you know McDonald's soaks their french fries in sugar before they fry them?" *

The guy behind her said, "Really? I'm going to go get some!" right about the same time that I said, "That's probably why they've got such a crunchy exterior."

She was sort of miffed.

*I have no idea if this is true. It's just what she said.

I'd delete it.

If it happens too often, take her off your list.

Please tell me if this is too political, but I'm really confused:

Milk is mucus?

If I understand it right, it's not that milk is mucus, it's that milk causes mucus, which is bad.  I'm not a proponent of this, and I just skimmed some websites, so I'm sure I'm oversimplifying and such.

Only if mammals leak mucus out of our mammary glands.  Which I'm pretty sure we don't, last time I checked.  But from a previous poster's explanation, it's a myth perpetuated by an animal right's group that's often quite out there, if not flat-out wrong, about the things it publicizes.

Just to chime it, it has never been proved that drinking milk causes an increase in mucus.  Furthermore, mucus is not necessarily "bad."  we actually need some mucus in our bodies.

Does the word "mucus" now look funny to everyone?

I once had two FB friends get in a debate on my wall.  My post was, "Well, Daughter has another ear infection."  The two FB friends were parents of friends of mine.

Friend's Mom: You should get them to stop drinking milk and cut out all dairy.  That's why your kids are so sick.

Friend's Dad: That's crazy talk.  Mainstay, feed your kids what you want.

Friend's Mom: Documentation website I cut out dairy and can now jump over buildings

Friend's Dad: Well I eat 17 pounds of cheese a day and have the body of a 20-year-old superhero

and on, and on.  It went on while I was at work, so by the time I got to it, they had argued through much of the day.  I deleted the whole thing.  I just think it's funny that it was the milk thing, but I didn't even start it!

The word "mucus" has *always* looked funny to me!

One website I saw used the spelling "mucous", which looks even stranger and funnier, at least to me!

Sorry about the threadjack!

I think she's also getting the mucus idea because she's parroting ideas she doesn't understand - one anti-milk argument (which is actually more anti-big dairy/industrial farming rather than milk itself) is that the way the animals are milked causes damage to the teats and therefore there is pus in the milk. Sorry, gross visual, I know! So she might be getting all that jumbled up in her head and spewing whatever results onto your facebook wall.

I say ignore, but don't delete (because she'll notice that and probably just comment again). In fact, consider posting in response to a friend which should bump her response up and into the "collapsed portion" of the comments, rendering it basically invisible.

I like it too. If you did want to delete it eventually, you could always wait a while until she forgets about it/her news feed has been filled with new stuff from other Facebook friends.

If it was my wall, I would go ahead and quietly delete it. The one "get out of jail free card" is a good solution too, since this has already passed. It definitely would not be rude to delete just her comment in the future though.

May be a bit gross: Milk would be more like sweat since mammary glands are modified sweat glands. It still isn't sweat though! And mucus and mucous are technically different words. Mucous refers to the membranes, and mucus is the gunky stuff the membranes secrete. /anatomy and physiology flashback

And this is what happened.  :)
