That lady is crazy. Delete or ignore.

I'm still kinda hung up on the milk is mucus comment. I have been sneezed on by cows and *that* is mucus. Cow snot is certainly something to be reckoned with, but for people to go around perpetuating factual inaccuracies like that blows my mind.
And no, there is no pus in milk caused by teat damage from milking. Here there are very strict bacteria counts done and if you knowingly milk cows with a bacterial infection like mastitis, you're gonna get pinged and your milk will not get picked up and you won't get paid until your counts are down.
Some cows even walk to the shed to be milked everyday, all on their own - though I have personally witnessed my 75 kg DF trying to convince a half tonne cow called Cuddles to go into the shed to be milked when Cuddles most definitely did *not* want to go. Trying to put a cow in a head lock and push it backwards is extraordinarily unproductive (but extremely entertaining to watch).

And I don't even *like* milk.

(I do like ice-cream though. And cheese. And sour cream. And...)  ;D

Just to be clear, I wasn't speaking to the veracity of that argument, just that it is one that is used!

That is as entertaining as watching 2 lieutenant colonels load a hog when said hog didn't want to be loaded.  It took local farmer guy to rattle some feed in bucket and hog daintily followed him into the trailer.

It's an argument used by some people who are really (REALLY really) into the animal rights thing. No, it's not factual or accurate, but many people (not just uber-animal rights people) skew the facts in order to sway people to their side of the argument. Heck, I think sometimes people believe the inaccuracies themselves, getting swept up by the emotionality of the argument before verifying the facts. In any case, doesn't "mucousy, blood-ridden pus" (It's a pretty gross description.) sound a lot more intense than "an emulsion of lipids containing protein, calcium, and vitamin C"?  ;)

And I don't even *like* milk.

Same here. :D

Roe, I only feel OK about saying this because I have been homeschooling forever, but welcome to homeschooling.  You will hear a lot of interesting stuff.

Oldest DD joined her former homeschooling group for a field trip yesterday.  A kid (old enough that he should have known better) made an inappropriate comment to DD and her DH.  DD told me about the comment and said all she could think was, "Oh, kid, you are so homeschooled."

I sure don't like to hear homeschoolers being made fun of, but there are some times when you just have to laugh about things that really are more typical with homeschoolers than other kids.

If you want to have some fun, try to get a group of homeschoolers to form a line, or go to a homeschool soccer game and watch as an errant ball flies towards the mothers huddled on the sideline and nobody yells "heads up!"

I'm sorry, I really don't get this joke.  lol This is our first year and we have found a huge mix of people in the homeschooling groups we joined but then again, there's a big mix in private and public schools too. (you just don't interact with the parents as much in those settings as you do in homeschooling settings)

As for homeschoolers being isolated, our experience has been completely different.  We are home at the moment due to the H1N1 that has hit our city hard but before the flu got so widespread, we were out and about every other day!

I realized that after SRM's comments, I didn't feel free to post any status updates on my wall so this evening, I finally went back and said "Enjoying Bestburgerplace burgers with family this evening."  Although I don't eat meat, I do eat burgers...I just take the meat patty out first! LOL

Anyway, most everyone in our area or anyone that is from TX or visited Tx enjoys this burger place and I knew I would get alot of comments and I have.  So far, nothing from SRM.  If she posts anything controversial, she's gone from my list of friends.

Every time the homeschooling moms tried to get our kids to line up, we end up with this:

              xxxxxxxxxx
        xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
        xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
            xxxxxxxxxxxx

The kids just hadn't developed the "merge into the line or go to the end" way of thinking.

Over the years, I've found that homeschoolers are a very, very active bunch.  With some homeschoolers, I think they should be called carschoolers because they are always in the car on the way from one activity to another.  Of course, if you want or need to be isolated, you can.  I was glad that we were already a homeschooling family when I learned about DD's disorder.  I can't imagine sending her to school when something like the H1N1 is going around.  I would be a nervous wreck.  There are kids with DD's disorder that attend school.  Some have a lot of issues with getting the school to understand the disorder and some have no problem.  I know I would be my biggest problem.  I would make myself sick with worrying, so homeschooling is what works for us.

Edited to remove the rest of my post because I thought I was in a different thread.  Sorry!

Okay, I got it! :)

Yes, I am so glad we are homeschooling this year!  (and maybe for a couple more years 'cause we are loving it!)  I  know that I would be a nervous wreck knowing that youngestson was in a Kinder class filled with kids that do not cover their coughs or sneezes.  LOL.

Last year, every.time.I went to visit his class, I would see his little neighbor cough in youngestson's face and I would cringe.  Youngestson did end up with quite a bit of illness last year and that's to be expected when you put your children in a Prek, K or 1st grade classrooms and I was not trying to isolate him at that time as our Pulmo has always told us "don't put him in a bubble."   (btw, youngestson did get the flu last year, even with the flu shot but Thank God it was so mild we hardly noticed)  When that same Pulmo told us to consider homeschooling this year, we took that suggestion seriously!  Now we are just loving the flexibility and I'm loving the fact that I get to see him learning and I'm part of it!

Oh, man... I've been spelling mucus wrong all this time?

All my facebook posts have spelled it "mucous," even though I'm clearly using the noun, not the adjective.  Argh.

Yes, I've been using that word too often lately.  :(

This... are just, well, stupid. I can sort of understand animal rights activists wanting to sway people to their way of thinking, its just telling such blatant lies seems kind of counter productive. And only likely to work on uhmmm, how shall I put this? Not very bright people? Lets lie to the stupid people! Yeah, that's a sound organisational objective... :P

Yes, yes it is stupid. But I think their goals are more about their desired results (not that they seem to happen, anyway, honestly) than being informational. But then again, there's a reason why I stay away from these sorts of groups even though I'm a vegetarian. :P
