I couldn't believe this when I saw them.

They have masks "wacko Jacko" that are obviously supposed to be Michael Jackson!

I never was a huge fan but at the same time I still think it's in poor taste considering his untimely passing.

I haven't seen them myself, but I would'nt wear them.
Maybe people want to have Thriller parties.

What kind of masks are they? Other than the name 'wacko jacko' (which I find to be in poor taste), are they particularly bad? Lots of people are dressing as Michael Jackson this year for hallowe'en (my DH is dressing as Michael Jackson in 'Thriller', only he isn't wearing a mask, he's wearing zombie make up).

Calling the masks "Wacko Jacko" is, indeed, in poor taste.

However, people have been dressing up as Michael Jackson for Halloween for decades.  I don't expect this Halloween to be any different.  If anything I expect more Michaels this year.

Doesn't particualarly bother me.  The name was given to him based on news stories of his behavior - some of which he himself leaked.  I wouldn't blink at a  Nixon mask with some unflattering title either.

I agree. He's been called Wacko Jacko for many years now.  I guess I don't feel like people should have to be PC now just because he died.

Since when has the popular media shown good taste? I think that went out about 1962.

As far as the "Wacko Jacko" title, I would imagine that is to avoid the thorny issue of licencing. They can claim that it's not Michael Jackson (TM), nosirree Bob. It's a made up character who just happens to LOOK like MJ (TM), marketed under a madeup name that just happens to be a tabloid reference to him. But it's not him, because that would get them into trouble with the trademark people.

Bear in mind too that the costume company may not be allowed to call them "Michael Jackson"

Kind of like they don't sell "Elvis" costumes they sell one called "The King"
Or this Halloween I saw a "I Can't Handle Eight" wig that was obviously modled on Kate's hairstyle (Of John and Kate Plus Eight fame)
So "Michael Jackson" might be banned under licensing issues, but "Wacko Jacko" is still fair game

lol, Twik and MrsO posted the same time I did

I thought it couldn't possibly be that bad until I googled it. Oh dear.  Sad

I think it's one thing to dress as Michael Jackson from his videos but quite another to dress as sick/mental issues/plastic surgery nightmare Michael Jackson. I agree that the mask is in bad taste.

...Okay, I Googled the mask too, and that particular one looks like MJ after he died.  Ew.  Those I agree are in poor taste.  I don't have a problem with MJ costumes or even the "Wacko Jacko" name, though.

I thought y'all were talking about the "Thriller" look costumes that I've seen at Popular Box Store.  Yikes!  I shouldn't have googled that at all  Undecided.

Um.. they've been selling that mask for years.  I remember seeing it a few years ago on several sites.  So now its in poor taste because he died?   I believe it was pattered after his mugshot.
