Oh, and let's not mention the "bunny" costume FOR GRADE-SCHOOL GIRLS that consisted of ears, tail, and BOW-TIE and was pictured worn over a leotard.

See maybe I'm naive but I see the bunny costume and I think "dance recital" not "sexy". I have no problems with the bunny costume as long as the leotard isn't inappropriate.

It's a Playboy bunny outfit. That is, by definition, meant to be "sexy". Not appropriate for dance recital for grade school girls, or anything else for them.

So what book was this? Because in someways that would disturb me more!

Robert Beck aka Iceberg Slim, maybe? ...not that he is appropriate reading material for grammar school kids by quite a bit.

That's what I was picturing too.  I've never seen the Playboy-style ones for little kids, only those similar to the ones Kethria posted.  Doesn't mean they don't exist, just that that was what I pictured -- I think those bunny costumes have pretty much always included the little bow ties in my lifetime (so for the past 20+ years).

We're not the only ones wondering about inappropriate Halloween costumes:

If I had a daughter and lived in America, I would so have to learn to sew. Smiley

The first one an EHellion actually picked up for her costume.

The last one is a Madonna costume, not a "teen bride."

The solution, then, is to buy your costumes online.  BuyCostumes.com has a wide selection of sexy costumes for adults.  Technically a teen could wear them, but they also have non-sexy varieties, and no sexy stuff for children.

You can be this pirate              or this pirate

And all their Harry Potter stuff, adults and children, feature full length robes.  Well except this one:

Yes, "Harry"'s little brother or sister can be Hedwig for Halloween.

Hey, "I" want to be Hedwig! That would so rock!

That looks like a great site - it's not that adults shouldn't be able to put some vavavoom in their costumes if they're attending adult functions, but it shouldn't be the only choice available.

I had a bunny outfit very much like that when I was 4 or 5, for a dance recital.  (I believe it was re-used for Halloween.)

It could also be a combination of not knowing what the word means and the "main-streaming" of the term. I know many people that use the word because it projects a certain image and not necessarily that the peron is literally engaged in prostitution. The whole pimp image has become so detached from its meaning that some people think of it as merely over-the-top.

For example: I live near a very big CITY with casinos. I rarely go to the casinos, but a few years ago some friends invited me, so I went, just to check it out. While I was there I saw a man dressed in the stereotypical pimp outfit: purple suit, hat, he even had the cane, but it wasn't Halloween (and it wasn't the exaggerated outfits for sale in the Halloween shops, it was a well tailored purple suit with matching purple fedora). A male friend leaned over and whispered, "wow! I can't believe the casino paid an actor to walk around like that! That is so cool." I had to explain that he wasn't an actor but a guest of the casino. "You mean people actually dress like that?!?!" Yes, yes, they do. Welcome to CITY.

ETA: Friend is originally from a small town in another state. He assumed it was the casino trying to live up to its "image" of being in the big, bad CITY.

Years ago, when I threw a Harry Potter release party at the library, one of our families came all in costume and had the baby as Hewig.  It was fantastic - they looked great!

So I went to the party city page where the blogger got her pictures.   I am seriously disturbed that the adult women costumes, even the sexy ones, cover more that the teen/tween ones.

My nephew, who is 12, was allowed to go as a pimp as well. His mother thought it was so cute...I was appalled. I wanted to ask my SIL if she was planning on going as a ho.
