Strange dreams
« on: November 06, 2009, 12:19:04 PM »
So last night (or really, this morning, since it was almost time to get up) I had the most bizarre dream.

bg:  I grew up in a house that overlooked a lot of fields.  Even though I haven't lived in that house in nearly 20 years, a lot of my dreams take place there.  I have a recurring tornado dream and that's the general location.  /end bg

I dreamed that I was looking out the patio door toward the fields and noticed a United jet airplane descending toward the field area.  Only it was completely upside down and surely going to crash.  As I was offering petitions to any deity who'd listen, landing gear suddenly came out of the roof.  The plane landed safely, albeit upside down on a runway that was just...there all of a sudden.  There was suddenly a large crowd around me and we were all cheering and everyone who was on board began to emerge.  I got the sense that no one was hurt very badly.  It was strange to me because when I have those sorts of dreams, they usually go the other way.

What are some unusual dreams you've had?

Not much so an singular unusual dream, but I have an recurring theme of dreams I haven't grasped the meaning of yet.

Alot of my dream involve snakes, not biting or attacking but literally hundreds of them crawling all over the place ala Indiana Jones.  What's strange in my dreams I don't seem scared of them, but there's still that ewww factor.

Heh, this was by far the weirdest dream I ever had.

In the dream, I was playing with my friends in a suburban neighborhood.  My grammie Suzanne drives up, and I see my brothers head in the passenger window.  Grammie Suzanne goes to the passenger door to open it for him and he gets out of the car.  My brother has his normal head but the body of a weiner dog.  We think nothing of it, and start playing "bounce the ball" with him.

Like I said, weirdest dream ever...

My strangest dream ever probably had to be the one where I was being chased by flying squid assassins. I hid in a carboard box.

Couple of really strange dreams, from when I was younger:

I'm digging in a mine shaft with my uncle (I'm about 6 or so in the dream), looking for treasure.  Suddenly, we notice a door in the wall that's locked.  My uncle thinks there will be treasure behind the door, and starts to break the lock.  I try to tell him not to and wake up.  I had this dream for about 5 years or so as a kid, off and on.

In another dream, I'm trying to make a flight, but am running late.  The jet door is already closed, so I can't get on the plane, but I have to get to wherever I'm going.  So the airline personnel attach what looks like a glass cylinder on a rope to the bottom of the plane, and I have to hold on to the rope in order to take the flight.  I had this dream for awhile a few years ago, but it's mostly stopped by now.  I mostly remember the sense of "awesome!" as I flew over the landscape.

I don't have dreams that aren't weird/disturbing.

I had a recurring dream almost every week for a long time. In it, I was walking up the long sloping hillside that is my mother's back yard. It was about to storm, just really overcast and thunder rumbling, but no rain yet. In the woods at the back of the yard there was just a sense of something evil waiting there, something monsterous that was biding its time, pacing back and forth just waiting to slip free so it could destroy me. I could hear it howling and panting and just feel how awful it was, how much it wanted me not just dead, but to never have existed at all.

The hillside would always be covered with bones. Human bones, animal bones, bones from things that never existed. I'd eventually drop to my knees and start digging skulls out of the dirt. Little palm sized skulls that were like a cross between a cat skull and a human skull. I'd be digging with my bare hands, knowing that if I didn't get all of the skulls out of the dirt by the time the storm finally hit, the thing in the woods would break free and come after me. The dream always ended with me desperately clawing skulls out of the dirt as the lightning finally hit and the thing in the woods broke loose.

For some reason I have always had dreams about there being something evil in those woods, that was out to harm me or my family. It would be a monster, or a wild boar, or a wolf, or a human, or several humans. I don't know why..I played in those woods all the time as a kid and no harm ever came to me in them. But in my dreams, they always house something terrible.

I've had variations on the bone dream, where the grass and trees are full of snakes instead of bones, and there's a man waiting in the woods instead of a monster, and I'm digging stones out of the dirt instead of skulls.

This was a lucid dream.  I knew I was asleep and dreaming because I was fooling around in the dream, changing my tennis shoes from one color to another.  Then I tried to change a bunch of grapes to diamonds, but they wouldn't change.  I remember thinking it wouldn't work because it was too mercenary of me to do that.
I've never knitted anything I could recognize when it was finished.  Actually, I've never finished anything, much to my family's relief.

When I was pregnant I dreamed that Black Sabbath got back together with Ozzy and went on tour. I was able to get backstage, and I killed Ozzy Osborne by stabbing him with my car keys. My dad found out and offered to help me get rid of the body, but I decided to turn myself in and plead insanity.

When I told my husband about the dream, he said, "Well of course you were insane to want to kill Ozzy!"  ;)

I have this crazy recurring dream about surviving a massive flood from some army type of attack.  The invaders flooded the salt mines and this valley nestled between two mountains...there were very few survivors.  I have this dream my entire life...even before my actual near drowning experience.

I also have this other crazy recurring dream where I am some High and Mighty Prince's mistress.  After I give him a son, he tries to kill him to stop some prophesied war between his his three sons.  Somehow or another I convince him the baby is actually dead and give him to a distant family to raise.  I didn't start having this one until I was  around 12 or so (at least, I don't remember it before then).

My dreams are always weird so here are some of note.

Reaccurring dreams
1. I am in a mall, an outside market or a mainstreet. The elevators aren't working and I really want to find a bookstore or whatever kind of store. I am really obsessing about it. The escalators are always weird. One time there was a grocery store in the mall.
2. I really want to drive somewhere. I almost never end up there for some reason. Sometimes there is a stop on the way that distracts me and I end up lost there or the bridge over to the destination falls or I drive off the bridge. On the very rare times I get there it turns into #1.
3. I've had a dream where the end of the world as we know it. I watch passivly as everything dies, knowing that for the few that survive it's useless.
4. I'm stuck in a video game with a watch that tells me my health and magic points.
5. I'm going to the movies and I find myself becoming a part of the movie.
6. I'm alone late at night and the TV starts having a mind of it's own. I know something horrible is going to show up but I can't turn it off or stop watching
7. I'm stuck in a haunted house and can't get out. This also works for government facilities.

None reaccuring

8. I was in a trange version of the lion king last night. If the Lion King took place in a wierd fantasy old school video game.
9. I was the daughter creator of robots that took over the world. The resistance was trying to save me, but the robots didn't want to let me go because I was the only one that could keep them working.
10. I had a really weird Power Rangers dream once.
11. My funniest weird dream was when I was in a really bad monster movie with Big Boy as the monster. He chased me down the highway and I was terrified.

I have a lucid, recurring dream where Godzilla shows up out of nowhere and chases me (and sometimes my friends).  Somehow I "learned" when a dream was going down the Godzilla road, and I could yell at him and make him go away.  It's like I'm aware that I'm dreaming, observing myself.  Crazy, I know  :-\.    I have to stop Godzilla at just the right time, or it's too late and I'm chased and terrified by his roar.

I also have the dream, like a PP, in which the TV only has one channel no matter what I try to turn it to, and the volume is sky-high.  I know something horrible or some phobia of mine is going to show up (a big bomb, or Godzilla ;)), and I cannot prevent it.  For some reason, I cannot leave the room.

I have dreams in which I'm catching an elevator, and it opens onto a dark, deserted room or hallway.  No matter what button I press, it's always the wrong floor.

I had a weird one a while ago where my father showed up at my door and I was angry at him for not calling ahead of time because the pot roast I was wearing on my head to condition my hair hadn't finished cooking on my head.

Usually I have really boring dreams.  I had a stunningly dull one about programming my digital camera, and another brutal one about doing my taxes.  The taxes one may have been a nightmare... I'm still trying to decide.
