Some months ago I posted a bunch of pictures from our elementary school days. I tagged all my classmates who were in the photos, who were on my friends list. One of them went to each of her photos and untagged herself. Why, I don't know, she looked perfectly decent and they weren't embarrassing photos at all. But she had her reasons, and I respect that. I did have one of my friends also posted a school photo, and she tagged me - except it wasn't me, so I untagged myself.

Your classmate may have done this because all of the comments by everyone tagged in the photo were overwhelming her inbox.

I've done this. The ones that really bug me are when people "tag" you in a "photo" that's not even a photo! It's a cartoon, or a gimmick to have you write nice things about the poster, or whatever.

Untag yourself, and know also that the person who posted the photos and tagged you won't get an email saying you untagged yourself or anything. They'd have to go to the photos and see that your name below the photo no longer links to your profile. They might notice, but chances are? They won't.

When I post photos, I tag the people in it, and then I never look at the tags again. Therefore if anyone has untagged themselves, I neither know nor care.

Mostly, I tag photos so people know I've put a picture of them on Facebook.

IMO you can untag yourself whenever you want without any downsides.

Like some posters on the first page, I put up some photos from school (primary school). But unlike them, I didn't tag anybody. I figure if they want to tag themselves, they can.

However, has anyone had the problem of people tagging photos with names of the wrong people? I've had this three times by now. Thank goodness my mother labelled everything, because I know exactly who everyone is in the photos. Other people, however, keep on tagging photos with the wrong names. I usually just remove the tag and mention in the comments that it wasn't X person, it was Y person. Is there something else I could do?

If people are mis-tagging photos that you posted (which I gather, since you can remove the tag) why not just re-tag the photo correctly? AFAIK, the tag can only be changed by you*, so it will stay correct.

* The person who is tagged can also change the tag, but presumably they will know which photos are of them.

Go ahead and untag yourself. I do this with every photo I'm tagged in. No one cares. They may go back and tag you again if they think they forgot the first time, but untag again. They'll get it.

I have a genuine phobia of have my picture taken/being videotaped/being on film at all. In the rare instance that a photo of me exists, I immediately untag it. I also made all tagged photos of myself inaccessible from my profile.

If I knew that of you Ashley, I mean if you were a real life friend of mine, I would never photograph you much less post the picture on Facebook. I guess most of your friends know this since photos of you are rare?

Most of my friends know I don't like it, or I just duck cameras. Normally I show up in the background somewhere and I get tagged. My mother, on the other hand, has 46 pictures of me tagged. I went back and untagged each one and she retagged. Repeat 2 or 3 times. So eventually I just set it so no one could access those pictures.

This is why I don't tag people without asking them first. I have photos from my school days up, but I figure if someone wants to tag themselves, they can. I'm not going to do it because I don't know if they would want me to.

Nice story but its not true. A person can not retag you on the same photo if you have removed the tag.

Maybe this is a new update to Facebook? They have made some changes recently.

Can you do that on Facebook? Limit *all* access to someone else's photo simply because it has you tagged on it?

I don't think you can do it for everyone, just from your profile. So if there was a photo you didn't want people to see, you could exclude certain people from seeing it under your "Photos." But, if someone was friends with another person tagged in the photo who allowed them access, they could see it.

I did not know that!  Very cool.  I untag myself from photos all the time and no one has ever noticed or said anything.

I sometimes tag photos of my daughter's friends and cousins "incorrectly" with their parents' and grandparents' names to make sure that they get a notification of the photo.  (I only post pictures of their kids with their permission, and set access appropriately.)

Unfortunately, I've done that.  I posted old class pictures and had people comment "That's not X, that's Y!"  If the comment was someone I was FB friends with, I'd always wondered why they didn't just re-tag the pic themselves (even non-friends can do it - I'd just have to approve it first).
