Do you make your own holiday cards?
« on: December 20, 2006, 02:23:36 PM »
For the past 6 or 7 years, we've made our own holiday cards.  We've come up with some pretty good ones, I must say.

However, this year's card is the one we've been getting the most comments on (all positive).  Here is the outside of the card:

And this was on the inside:

Time was with most of us, when Christmas Day, encircling all our limited world like a magic ring, left nothing out for us to miss or seek; bound together all our home enjoyments, affections, and hopes; grouped everything and everyone round the Christmas fire, and made the little picture shining in our bright young eyes, complete.

-- Charles Dickens

The cool thing is that we did the picture first, because dh thought it was a neat concept.  The next day, I was looking for something to quote by Charles Dickens for the inside, and this was one of the first ones my search turned up.  Like it was meant to be!

Any other homemade cards out there?

I do a mix. The family get home made card with a current picture of the boys. Always taken right after we set up the tree Thanksgiving weekend.

My family really likes these because they get to see how the boys are. We don't get to see my family often due to distances.

Friends and associates get commercial cards that I buy in bulk and sign.

P.S. forgot to add that is one very cool card! ;D ;D

Sort of...Dh has a graphic design business and each year designs a Christmas Card...I pilfer a few from the shipment and sent those. I do write personal notes in each one of them though.

I make a trip to the Dollar Tree and I make myself pay for them, does that count? I do not have a creative bone in my body when it comes to art. I'm a crackerjack writer, but don't ever ask me to do any sort of artistic representation. I am the Renoir of the stick figure....
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....

Hey, stick figures can be very chic!  We used them on our cards one year!

Yes, but all of mine look developmentally disabled...maybe I should say I am the Picasso or the El Greco of the stick figure....

Any other homemade cards out there?

At one stage I used to make "fan" cards on my computer and send them out to all my friends who were far away. They almost always featured my favourite TV show/s of the moment.

After a while I got bored with that and bought "African" cards - either "Proudly South African" cards (cards made here) or ones with an ethnic theme. This year I chucked all that and bought Far Side and religious cards and sent those to various people, depending on whether they were Christians or had a weird sense of humour like me. For ones I wasn't sure of, I sent cards with little bears on. :)

I think your card is VERY striking and stunning - no wonder you got all those positive comments!

The card that people thought was cute was one I made on my computer in 1998 using a program called Print Artist (still my favourite clip art program). I had to scan in since I've gone through about three hard drive crashes since then:

The pictures are of:
Duncan MacLeod (Adrian Paul) and Richie Ryan (Stan Kirsch) from Highlander
John Sheridan (Bruce Boxleitner) and Delenn (Mira Furlan) from Babylon 5
Benton Fraser (Paul Gross) and Ray Vecchio (David Marciano) from Due South
Jim Ellison (Richard Burgi - Susan's ex-husband in Desperate Housewives) and Blair Sandburg (Garett Maggart) from The Sentinel

Cheesy and fannish, but I thought it was quite pretty.

The only Vulcan from South Africa! :)
