When I was 17, my favorite band, Stabbing Westward, was coming to town to play. I thought it was an 18+ show, since it was at a club, and the shows at that club were always 18+.
I e-mailed Chris Hall, the lead singer to tell him how much I loved their music, and how I was disappointed that I couldn't go to the show, but I'd make sure to see them one day.
He e-mailed me back and invited me to stop by before the concert and hang out with him and the rest of the band. I was so, so excited...and my mother said I could go, but only under one condition. She had to go with me, because she wasn't going to let her 17 year old daughter hang out with a bunch of 20-30something year old musicians without supervision.
So I took my mother with me to meet them. Now, they were an industrial/rock band, all pierced, tattooed, and the only one without oddly colored hair was the one with the shaved head. They wore leather and fishnet and spiked dog collars, and there was my mother, sitting next to them in her flowered dress.
It turned out that the lead singer absolutely loved my mother..he thought her british accent was the coolest thing ever. We got to see the sound check, hang out on the tour bus, and he apologized to my mother for singing a song with swear words during sound check. They signed all of my CDs and gave me some stickers and posters. Chris Hall e-mailed me one day and said "Hey, say hello to your mother for me!"
Yep. Best experience ever..and it turned my mother into a fan of theirs forever. I never did get to see them in concert, though..they broke up before they ever toured near our area again.
