I had a horrible year from summer 2005 to summer 2006. Serious life threatening illness and therapies etc etc. I'm feeling great now. So great, in fact, that I find I am being rather extravagant with myself and others. I learned over the past year and a half that money means little, but it can make one happy if used for happy things. So my Xmas list for others includes anything they mention that they want plus any little extras I fancy they might want. I found a perfect little gift for my friend at work and got it for her. Usually we just exchange very small token gifts. But this was a must have.
I guess I am concerned that people will feel they have to reciprocate or something. I am just so happy to be here for another year (and hopeful for many more) that I can't help it. Am I breaching any etiquette by ignoring previous gifting (unspoken) agreements? or will people understand?
I am trying to get the worst of my spendthrift ways directed towards charities. They never say no, and never say "you shouldn't have."
