Un---Believeable!
« on: December 20, 2006, 08:39:33 PM »
This is the second (SECOND!!) time this has happened.I have a collegue that fancies himself a vidiographer.  Taped last year's employee holiday party, there was a huge issue that the patients were watching it over the night shift.

(Background, I work in a Psych ward, and have had several stalkers follow me out to the parking lot after they were discharged)

Today, my pastoral counselor yanked me out by my collar (in the middle of pretty important treatment planning--we unplug the phones to concentrate on the clients)

Sorry--clicked, but hadn't finished.  A collegue showed a tape of the employee Holiday party to my patients.

I don't want my clients to see me in a low cut blouse and a beer in hand, other people bumping and grinding on the dance floor, and pretty much serious boundary issues.

I got upset enough that one of the gals I supervise said, "I've seen you angry over the years, I've never seen you angry enough that you were shaking"

I didn't do anything stupid, but I felt that it was a violation of my privacy.

Any particular reason why Co-Worker felt the urge to video-tape this party? Did other people there want a video of themselves drinking and partying and what-not? Who gave it to the patients? I assume none of them were at the party?

I don't blame you for feeling a little irritated - your patients may see you differently now after seeing you in non-medical mode. Maybe not, but there's a possibility. So what has become of this video now? Is it still being watched during the night shift, or has it stopped?

This sounds like grounds for disciplinary action.  This is egregiously unprofessional and far beyond the scope of etiquette.

This was day shift, and I can't believe it happened AGAIN!  We were pretty clear last year about boundary issues.  My old boss actually thought I was kidding and trying to pull one over on her.

This is horrible and, if you are in the United States, I would say this qualifies as sexual harassment.  Whoever shared this video is creating a hostile work environment for you.  The pastoral counselor also had no business grabbing you by your collar.  If he/she wanted to talk to you, he or she could have waited until after the meeting or asked to speak to you in private.  You might want to consider hiring a lawyer to find out what your rights are.  Good luck to you.

My husband works in the state hospital, so I am totally feeling you. This person has compromised your safety. Point blank, period. Removing the professional distance between you and your patients not only compromises their therapy, but it can put you in serious danger of assault or worse. I am saying this like you don't know it I realize but this just crosses the line.
That employee should be subject to dismissal. There is no excuse for having done that once, much less twice. Complain strenously until you are heard and steps are taken.

Why was the idiot allowed to keep his job, go to the holiday party with a video camera, and he needs to be fired yesterday. My sister is a social worker and has been stocked a couple of times by clients.

My husband does x-ray and he had a client who learned his on call schedule and would swallow things on his nights on shift so she could come see him. She was in luuuurrrrvvvee with him. It was mostly funny to us, she was harmless to all but herself.
But there are some women up here who have been stalked and there have been at least two who were murdered years ago by patients. Not to mention the assaults, which have been numerous...
Anyone who endangers others has no place in the job. Especially in a job that is risky under the best circumstances, downright dangerous in the worst.

There is no reason for you to be "collared" out of a meeting. This video nut needs to be disciplined immediately. There is no reason to show this tape to the patients. It's not a constructive use of their time and puts the staff in the position of being disrespected or hurt. This man needs to be fired.

Willow, the poor woman was being evaluated, she's an inpatient here at the psych hospital where hubby works. She just formed an attachment to my hubby. What was ironic was that when she would be having a bad night and had to come over to the med unit, hubby was often the only one who could get her to behave. She'd do anything he told her to.
She was transferred out following a bad incident with some staff member (I'm loathe to go into it) but has since returned. Hubby hasn't heard much out of her though, so we think she's improving some.

Wow. Kudos to your husband for his patience.

And BTW, when I wrote, I meant that your husband had to put up with this, not that he was somehow contributing to her swallowing dangerous objects. I thought she was coming through emergency room to see him. (Shows what happens when you assume.)

I'm with you...bless her heart, I really felt terrible for her. She had some very severe issues with mental health but there was a lot of abuse in her past as well. My hubby is a kind soul and a lot of the "wounded birds" here at the hospital have latched on to him. He has quite a fan following.

Sounds like this video voyeur needs a dressing down and perhaps other discipline from HR.  So does your pastoral counselor.

Showing a video of that was very unprofessional and definitely crossed boundaries that need to stay uncrossed.

Collaring you and dragging you out of a meeting was also unprofessional and rude of the counselor.
I'm away from sanity right now...please leave a message after the beep.
