The newspaper might have donated the ad space because they'd already run a story on the benefit. If it was a full-page ad, no. But I could see many local type newspapers donating a quarter-page BW ad, especially if it wasn't something they had to design in-house.

LOL  Nice thought, Tabris.  But not "this" paper.  Typically, to get an article of this nature, (promoting an event)you must run a PAID ad.  It is extremely rare for them to "donate" advertising space.  (I used to work for them.)  This wouldn't have been one of those "rare" times.

I'm wondering what Entitlement is going to pull now that his "benefit" was lightly-attended. Will he stand on a street corner with a sign?

'I' want to know if he "performed" with the others on Saturday night.  If he's healthy enough to have done that, he's healthy enough to go out and WORK for the money to pay his doggoned bill!

Okay, everyone!  Here's the scoop!!

I spoke with the band member who originally broached the subject, tonight:

The "benefit" was NOT well attended.  25 people tops.  Some of whom gave more than the $20 admission fee.  But they only got about $1000 total.

According to Mr. Diva's bandmate, EntitlementGirl was "disappointed in the turnout, since she'd put so much work into putting the benefit together.  Don't people understand how difficult it is to organize such a thing?" 

So...subtract the minimum of $200 for an ad in the paper...and they cleared $800.  Poor BABY!

Yes, BenefitBoy performed.  He sang a song at the end, with someone else.  (How touching!)

When I asked the bandmember if EntitlementGirl had a job, she told me, "No.  She's just trying to do as many (community theatre) shows as possible."

Well, last time I checked, Community Theatre doesn't PAY anything.  She might want to think about spending her time with something that does...until BenefitBoy's hospital bill is paid for!

The both of them utterly disgust me!

UPDATE:

Today's paper came out.  There was a photo of EntitlementGirl dancing onstage, and another of BenefitBoy and the guy who wounded him in the accident, telling the audience how it happened.  There is no article this time, but under the picture of her dancing, she's listed as BenefitBoy's wife...which is a lie. 

I spoke with the "wounder" this evening and asked how it went.  He was utterly disgusted that it (the "benefit") was even organized.  He said the turnout was dismal (according to him, about 10 people) and that EntitlementGirl and BenefitBoy have been very ugly with him over the accident that caused BenefitBoy's hospitalization.

He also told me that someone video taped the "performance," and now EntitlementGirl is charging all of the performers $35 EACH for a copy of the DVD!  I nearly lost it!

He also acknowledged that the entire article in the paper that appeared previously...except for the part describing the accident...was a total lie.  (He had nothing to do with the article, nor was his name ever mentioned as the being the "wounder" of BenefitBoy.)

I also happen to have found out that they went to Disneyland for EntitlementGirl's birthday in mid-December.  WITH the three kids (two of whom are hers from a previous marriage...only the baby is BenefitBoy's.) AFTER BenefitBoy was hospitalized and AFTER they knew how much the bill would be, that they so desperately needed to organize a "benefit" for (so they don't lose their house...which is also a lie), in order to pay...with other people's money!

"She" doesn't work, and won't...because now she's supposedly writing a childrens' book!  I can guarantee with my LIFE, that it's definitely not an etiquette book!

Last time I looked at admission prices to Disneyland, it wasn't cheap!  I'd be inclined to believe that they spent the better part of $1000, if not more.  Particularly if they stayed overnight.

So, guess what folks?  I think they just raked in $1000 at this "benefit" to reimburse themselves for a trip to Disneyland!  NOT a better than $25,000 "hospital bill!"

woo hoo!!!!  thank you for the update, Diva!  i was wondering what happened on Saturday.  and isn't it just really amazing that so many other people in your community felt exactly the same way that you did?

Disneyland?  they went to Disneyland, instead of paying medical bills or the mortgage?   oh puleeze!
