PODDITY POD POD POD! I am just becoming more and more amazed by the sheer amount of times that people use their cell phones while we hang out! I was at a party tonight with Kate, Priscilla and Sage that was hosted by Sage for her birthday. My phone was in my purse and Sage's was in another room. Both Kate and Priscilla were sitting there for a good 20 minutes texting Priscilla's brother about something that had happened earlier that day that made them angry while we were trying to have a conversation. And the best time to deal with those issues is during Sage's party? Couldn't they handle it some other time? Were Sage and I really that boring?

I am dying to host a party someday that is a cell phone free party and you can only use your cell phone if it is a life and death situation. Otherwise it is put away. Alas, it is probably only a dream. I swear I feel like I am becoming a fuddy duddy about this.

I agree that Kate's behavior is rude (and dangerous) and the OP shouldn't have to just sit and take it.

However, the impression I got was OP was riding in a car with Kate when it happened.  Since jumping from a moving vehicle isn't exactly an option, what was she supposed to do?

(That honestly wasn't meant to be snarky - I think it would be helpful to discuss what do do in an unescapable situation like that.)

Since they were in a car, the OP could have said, that she prefers it if Kate does not talk on the phone while driving, since it is illegal and dangerous.

I've been in that situation (with a male on our way to a date, of all things) and I would love to know too! At least my situation wasn't dangerous, because I was driving and he was talking... but his chitchat with his mate lasted literally across a whole (small) city 

And it wasn't just driving - this particular male would let non-urgent phone calls interrupt anything, if you know what I mean

For the driving question, I think that if you are in a safe area, you can ask the cellphone fanatic to pull over so you can take a taxi.  You can also ask that person to take you home.  You can also make a deal that you will do all of the driving or the cellphone stays off while you are in the car. 

J want to make it clear that I am not anti-cellphone.  I own a Blackberry.  I simply oppose rude cellphone behavior.
