One year the Chancellor of the university I work for made his personal assistant send out a campus-wide e-mail cautioning against something that was actually an urban legend. One of the cell phone scam related ones, I believe.

His assistant later told us that she knew it was an urban legend, and tried to tell him, but he believed it to be utterly true because someone he trusted had e-mailed the information to him.

My sister is a minister in a small country town.  They have a big Memorial day ceremony at the town cemetery and one year one of the local busy bodies veterans was speaking as was going to base his speech on the story of Taps, the urban legend version.  My sister tried to correct him, showed him Snopes, the US Army Historical society, etc.  He told her she was unpatriotic and this was a great story.
