Thanks for the clarification. Unfortunately it's easy to get caught up in the feedback drama when people make it so important to the transaction.

I soooooo agree :)

I've got some great feedback... 8,897 - 99.9% and my stars are 5.0, 5.0, 4.9, and 4.8 but I make it a priority to not care about it..  If I cared about my feedback I'd be too scared to tell a customer that he had to return an item to get a refund, or I would fall to every feedback blackmail scam out there.

Instead, I just run my business...

I used to LOVE LOVE LOVE selling on Ebay.  I financed the down payment for my first house by cruising estate sales and then reselling on Ebay.  I had a GREAT feedback rating.  I only left negative feedback as a LAST resort, to buyers who were delinquent and did not communicate at all.

When they changed the system, I found out firsthand how bad things could really get.  There were people who left negative feedback despite receiving the item and emailing me that they were happy about it.  "Price too high".  "Shipping could have been faster".  Ummm, don't bid if it's too high and my shipping methods/average times/costs are CLEARLY listed on the auction.  One person left me negative feedback stating that they waited 5 weeks for their item....seven days after the auction closed.  So now I can bend space and time?  And as a seller you have NO recourse.  Ebay basically says 'sorry, work it out yourself'.  I only offer one shipping method and can not upgrade even for more money, and clearly state this.  I got negative feedback from a buyer who changed her mind because I couldn't upgrade her shipping AFTER I REFUNDED HER MONEY, which I totally didn't have to do.

I tend to buy more than I sell now...  And I only like the "buyitnow" feature...I don't have time to watch auctions.

I, too, have been really turned off by ebay’s anti-seller policies.  I have a really nice collection of high-end designer bags (all 10000% authentic) and I had my account suspended for listing one for auction, despite my 5 star feedback rating.  Silly me, I thought that listing your items for sale and giving people the opportunity to buy them was the whole point of ebay…..

Not sure if someone's mentioned it, but I have heard (from more than a few sellers) that the 5 star feedback is so important because sellers with a rating less than 4.5 stars get charged a higher percentage fee by ebay for their sales.
So while 4 stars sounds good, it's really not.
