I've had a friend who did this and I was so floored, she got the silence as an answer.  I've stopped reading her blog.

How annoying.  At least with a newsletter, that person has actually sent it to you.  It's not really safe to assume that everyone reads every newsletter they get, but at least it's not a blog that's just floating out there on the Internet.

I now people whose days are full of not-that-interesting stuff, but who do sort of interesting blogs. But that's because they have interesting minds. And their conversations in person are usually interesting, too.

I agree.  My favorite blogs are of people who lead pretty mundane lives; they do pretty much the same boring things every day that I do, but they make them funny or thought-provoking.

I have a blog.  I hate that word.

I've run into a situation lately in which, when I see a friend, I ask what's going on, how did a particular project work out, did she enjoy her vacation--whatever.  The response is a cold, semi-reproachful look and "It was in my blog".

Excuse me for preferring to interact with you personally and catch up via human conversation rather than looking up and reading one of your numerous blogs!

"I pawned my computer. It was in my Christmas letter."  ;)

I like that one.

I would play dumb, act completely oblivious to her cold reproachful look, and ask in an upbeat way: "Cool, I haven't been reading online a lot lately though, what did you write, then?"

I keep a blog, too, but I would never assume that people should get all their news about me from it and it alone...or that their failure to do so was any kind of insult. Actually I usually have the opposite problem, forgetting people read my blog at all...more than once I've excitedly told people things only to have them laugh and say "Yeah, I saw that on your blog already."  ::)

If I were confronted with a statement like your friend's I would probably respond with something like "Well yeah, but if I got all my info from the internet, then what would we have to talk about?"

A friend I had thought was close once bulk emailed a link to her blog (I was on the list) to let everyone know that she had gotten a book deal. I re-evaluated our friendship at that point. I guess we weren't as close as I thought. :(

I blog and when asked about something I covered in a blog post, I'd just tell people.  A cold "it was in my blog" doesn't mean that the other person has, can, or will see it.  This response is out of line.

I like Sahara's response.  That's cute and to the point!  :)

I speak about many things on my blog, but even when I use the "it was in my blog" line, it's for example when I post pictures (I talk to the person about something, and point them to the corresponding post for the pics) or when I'm telling something about one specific incident, and don't want to rehash the story (I'll send the link to the post, and discuss anything related to it) .

But a cold "It was in my blog" as if everyone was supposed to read it ? Nope, can't do that. I know for a fact that not everyone reads blogs, and I'm not going to use it against people.

My best friend does that All. The. Time.  Me: "So, what's going on with <whatever>?"  Her: "It was in my blog, didn't you read it?"  The fact is, I just haven't had the time that I used to have to keep up with my friends' blogs.  Heck, I barely write in mine anymore, save for posting cake and kitty photos.

You can always just say to your friend, "Blogs are great, but they just can't replace verbal communication. I'm asking because I'm interested in how you are doing."

POD.

I think it's ok (I *hope* it's ok, because I do it) to mention that I wrote about something in my blog, especially if I only have a few mins to catch up with somebody & they asked me about something going on that has a lot of story in it.

Since my blog is more of the newspaper column I was promised but never given, I wouldn't expect anyone who reads it to know how I've been doing. Yeah, I sometimes post what's going on, but it's nothing exciting. And since I've been bad about keeping it up, nobody would know anything anyway.

I don't even know if anyone reads my blog. The only place I advertise it is here.

Very rude reply. I like what Oxy said .

I have you in my rss reader, along with some other random ehellions, but I haven't read anyone's blog in a couple of weeks.
