This is a slightly unusual one and I'd like to get your opinions on it...
My dad has a blog onto which he posts all manner of things - what the dog is doing, reports of holidays, how his new car doesn't have as much windscreen squirt as the old one - just general stuff. He recently posted that the entire family would be travelling to a specific event, courtesy of my husband who had arranged the tickets thru a personal contact.
A relative, who lives very near the event, instantly called up my dad and fished for an invite. We hadn't realised she lived quite near this event, and as the event was sold out my lovely husband hauled out another big favour for extra tickets for her and her boyfriend.
Something about this sort of felt wrong - if I had found out about family coming to an event near me and not inviting me, I'd probably not mention it at all as they'd clearly already sorted the guestlist. If I wanted them to know I was aware of it, I'd invite them over for a drink/tea afterwards, but not invite myself along.
Questions:
1) Was Dad impolite for posting this on his blog? In other words, is this the modern day equivalent of talking about a party to which not everyone is invited?
2) Was relative impolite for fishing for an invite?
