Normally, I would say it's rude to complain about others' status. I don't mind regular awareness cut & paste urgings because as PPs have said, just skim over them. The ones that annoy me are the ones that read 93% (where are they even getting that statistic because it seems to be the same for every cause?) won't post this, post this to cure cancer or autism, etc. They annoy me because they are chastizing the folks who don't copy and paste.
Now, people I love and care about very much have been affected by these conditions. I've given money to support research to help the people suffering from them and participated in fundraisers. As well as offering moral support and care to people close to me. But someone wants to try to imply I don't care because I don't copy and paste like a lemming? The response I'm tempted to post is decidedly not ehell approved and far more heated than the OP's. Which is why I resist that temptation, both here and on Facebook.
Not to mention, it really makes me question the intelligence of someone who thinks a bunch of Facebook status spam is going to do anything to help cure cancer or autism. People are obviously well aware that cancer and autism exist. Chastizing the 93% who don't repost Facebook status spam allows the poster to feel morally superior & self righteous without actually doing anything to really help. Maybe instead of reposting a bunch of useless Facebook status spam, that 93% is contributing money or organizing a walkathon or making sure a cancer patient has transportation to/from chemo or making sure they and their family have some meals in the home. Maybe they're lending a sympathetic shoulder to a parent dealing with autism. I'm tempted to post that as a status update, but even though it's true, it would break the rule against meeting rudeness with rudeness.
I think the OP's far milder reproach is better because it's much more light hearted. The problem with leaving off the complaint about the awareness status as PPs have suggested is that people are just going to think it's a Monty Python status update. Which is enjoyable in and of itself. But they won't catch on it has anything to do with the awareness posts. But having seen this trend explode within the last week or so along with the cryptic bra color posts and something to do with inches, I could just be cranky.
