I don't understand the whole onoez you don't agree with my views thing. One of my best friends is the polar opposite of me politically. Of course, we never talk about politics.

I agree.  And if it's done civilly, even the talking can be interesting & informative.  If someone's explaining why they're thinking, feeling or voting a certain way and addresseing the actual issues (vs. insulting a particular politician and that person's supporters), it can actually be quite thought provoking.  And listening to the other side either strengthens my own viewpoints or on occasion, leads me to do some thinking and change my position.

We actually have talked about politics in the past. Quite extensively. But we know enough about each other's views to know that neither of us are going to change. After a while we just stopped talking about politics; why have the same discussion twice?

I should have said, "We never talk about politics anymore" originally I guess.
