I don't donate to causes to get a pat on the back. I personally dislike people who parade around saying look at me, I'm so good look what I did to help the poor unfortunates. They are helping to make themselves important not to actually help.

My sister's status says that she just donated to help Haiti and hopes all her 333 friends will too.
If our relationship was stronger I mention that it speaks more of her insecurity than generosity.

I think the "93%" posts and "join this group to" groups are a waste of time and spam, but links to charities, thoughts on the matter, and personal stories are just human nature and sometimes valuable to the charities involved.

Pod. I don't think it's rude at all to not "jump on the bandwagon." I don't think real charity links, etc. are rude either unless it's taken to far to the point of spam. Other things I pretty much ignore. Of course rumors have been going crazy since the Earthquake - I don't understand why people can't take two minutes to research things before posting.

On a slighted related note - has Facebook turned into a "causes" site for anyone else? I thought about doing another topic on it, but I figured I'd just ask here. It seems like so many of my FB friends have literally jumped on every. single. bandwagon out there. My news feed has started to be filled with nothing but causes anymore.

Perhaps you should start a "donate money to look in the tunk" cause.  What the heck; it's worth a shot.

I'm leaving for Haiti on Monday to begin rescue work for the animals down there.

I do not have the financial resources to donate at all.

Those on Facebook who continue to bombard me with donation requests/reminders/ etc will simply have to accept that my time is what I can donate.  It will take all of my strength to get through the time I will spend down there.

Please don't take this wrong...

But I think you're my hero. Good luck!

Aw, thanks.  Far too often, aside from the destruction that is so evident, is the amount of animals that require our immediate assistance that are overlooked.  No, I'm not placing value of one species' life over another, but this is what we do, and I'm doing my part.

Admittedly, I am terrified, but I know what our Rescue has to do, so it's best I go and help.
