Posting Photos to Facebook - a couple of situations
« on: January 23, 2010, 06:36:10 PM »
Since I value the advice of eHellions, I wanted to see what everyone thinks these situations. I have some pictures I'd like to post on Facebook, but I am little hesitant.

1) I recently went through some of my grandparent's old pictures. Some of the photos, in my opinion, are amazing. I scanned them and they turned out great. Some of them have other people, but these pictures are all from 1970 or earlier. Should I post those, even though I have no idea who some of the people are?

2) I have a some relatives involved in school sports. I know some people feel very strongly about kid's pictures online, but what about game shots were you can't really even make out much? Of course I wouldn't be identifying anyone, and it's likely that out of the hundreds of people at the games someone will post pics somewhere. (I know posting kids pics online has been discussed before, but I wasn't sure about this specific situation - I hope I don't cause any arguments! :) )

For both cases, my opinion is that as long as you don't tag them, it's okay.

In my parent support group, we often post pictures of our kids at various events.  If we do identify the kids, we just use their first names.

In both cases you are fine.

In the first, it's more of a historical picture than anything. IN the second, I think group shots are fine, but wouldn't post posed pictures of someone else's child without permission.

Another option, for the family photos, which I did, is to set the privacy settings so only certain people can see them.  I have a whole bunch of cousins on FB, and these were photos of them in our teenage years, etc.  Not wanting to embarass them, but wanting them to see them, I made the album viewable ONLY to family.  that would work as well for your other photos, kids and sports.

I think the first one could be really informative.  You might find out who people are.  The second one, I think it's OK to post pictures of kids who are adults, but that's my view.

I think you are fine, I've actually posted old family photos with request for help tagging people.

The only way I communicate with my cousins now is via facebook and we communicate a lot more than we did before.
