When you get an e-mail from someone...
« on: February 02, 2010, 12:33:13 AM »
And it's giving you an updated e-mail address for the sender, but you have no idea who the sender is... and on top of that, she's not used the BCC feature and now not only she but a whole bunch of other people you don't know now have your e-mail address....

Is it rude to write back to the person and tell them to please leave your name off her lists because you have no idea who she is? And furthermore to please not send a mass e-mail out to everyone with all the e-mail addresses showing?

I *think* this woman once responded to an ad I had on Craigslist, and she probably added my e-mail address to her book in error.. but I still don't want her entire circle of friends, with whom I am not acquainted, to have my e-mail address.

Since it's too late to do anything about it now (meaning, the others already have your address), I'd just drop it for now. If she does it again, however, I think you're definitely right to send her an e-mail.

I think her e-mail may have been hijacked  as my computer found a virus - which just goes to show that one should never open an e-mail from someone you don't know.

I was thinking virus, or at least spam program, there.

Yes, and it's a very painful virus, too - I had to talk to my buddy who does this for a living to get help in removing it. Thank goodness I also have a laptop so I can keep coming on the internet and applying for jobs while I clean the regular PC.

Not to mention the fact that it keeps generating ads for pron and Viagra, which my 7 year old saw this morning when I booted up my computer.

This is a very tricky virus and I'm extremely annoyed that I didn't follow my number 1 rule, which is delete, delete, delete anything from people I don't know. I saw the return e-mail and it looked familiar and then I thought she might be a mom's group member, and then bam. But that's how they get you.
