I messaged my cousin and asked her if she knew her and explained the situation.

I'm confused: what is the situation?

Is there some type of backstory or history with this co-worker? Did the co-worker lie to your cousin and pretend to have an existing rel@tionship with her? Otherwise, it sounds to me like your cousin chose to friend someone she didn't know. I fail to see how that is the co-worker's fault.

I agree. And I'm wondering why your cousin accepted the "friend" request.

It could have been a game thing, etc. And since Facebook runs around suggesting friends for people, it could even have been that your coworker was working her way through a list of suggested people and clicked "friend her" when she meant to click "ignore."

I'm sorry it took me so long to answer.  My cousin thought maybe she was someone she knew since she was friends with me.  When I told her who she was she had the same reaction that I did.  I would not have stopped her from being friends with her if she wanted to be.  I just thought she should know who she was.  The friends on my friends list are people I know personally.  I guess I just assumed everybody was that way.  I guess I was wrong.  I still don't think I am wrong for telling her.  My past experience has taught me that de-friending her was the best choice for me.  I can't really explain it further, but I know it was the right decision.

Oh, I don't think you were wrong to mentioning to your cousin that this person was a coworker of yours.

And if you had a reason to defriend the coworker, then definitely you can tell your cousin.

It's just that with no other anything to go on, it's not automatically creepy for someone to send a friend request to a friend of a friend.
