Egg rolls or wontons?  I remember fondly a garnish of peanuts on a sweet & sour at a restaurant that I used to frequent.  A soup to start - wonton instead of hot & sour, perhaps?

Coconut or mango ice cream with crushed peanuts - tried this at a Thai restaurant in Orlando a couple of years ago - DH insists that we go back there at least once every trip to the area.  Not more than once or we'd be too big for our swimsuits!

I really, really like cardamom carrots:

4-6 carrots, sliced finely
4-5 cardamom pods sliced open with seeds taken out
1-2 tbsp oil
juice of 1 orange

heat the oil, then add carrots and cardamom seeds, stir-fry for 3-4 minutes, add orange juice and stir fry for another minute. Add salt and pepper to taste.

I just had that with Turkey corma (served with rice and naan)

Broccoli with oyster sauce - there are lots of recipes if you google.

I'm translating a wok cookbook and should be moving from soups to side dishes any day now, if I find anything that looks like it'd go with sweet and sour chicken and I get around to testing it, I'll post recipies :)

Is the chicken itself battered and fried, or just in the sauce?  If it's fried, I would recommend a steamed vegie side dish - the broccoli with oyster sauce that PPs have recommended would be lovely.  I would also recommend plain steamed rice instead of fried rice, maybe with some peas and vegies if you don't like it plain.  If it's just in the sauce, I would recommend something nice and crunchy, like prawn crackers or mini spring rolls.

the original is in English, so it'll be easy to share recipies as I go along. Cookbooks really are my favorite part of my job :)
