E-vite/Facebook and Invitations?
« on: February 23, 2010, 10:21:11 AM »
Planning a party for my dd at a local gym.  They need to know the specific number of kids so they can provide the required number of "teachers". (it is a gymnastic/tumbling type gym)  And of course I know RSVPing is horribly ignored usually.

I was discussing this with another mom and she said she had really good success with the evite as they will mark yes or no.

But I also heard evite is "tacky" and rude.

Since her party is Fancy Nancy, we were going to scrapbook a fancy invitation. (no mention of gifts of course) and then follow up with an evite or Facebook event. (I know 5 out of the 8 moms are on facebook)

Would that be alright?

Personally, I think this kind of situation is perfect for Evites. I wouldn't do an Evite for a wedding, or something super formal, but for a children's birthday party at a gym, I think it's great.

I agree. I don't have a problem w/ e-vites for less formal gatherings.

Nope, I don't have a problem with it.  I do wonder though about the people calling e-vites rude - I mean yeah it would be rude if you(general, not the OP) decided to do just an e-vite knowing some of the guests don't have computer access, but I don't think they are inherently rude.

I LOVE evite!

Would I use it for say, a wedding? Absolutely not.

Would I use it for a birthday/Random Holiday/Random Event party? Absolutely!

I don't see anthing wrong at all with using the internets to keep to invite people to less than formal parties.

I would never use Evite for someing formal like a wedding but we use Evite or Facebook all the time for birthday parties, casual group potlucks and other events.  It is so much easier and faster than other methods.  And it is much easier to get a head count because people are more likely to click yes or no while it is up instead of taking time to calll or send a note.

I would do it.

Oh yes, Evite is perfect for potlucks because when people respond they can list what their bringing!
